With the recent signing of Cabaye, and knowing that both Ben Arfa and Gosling will be back next season it's obvious that our midfield will be reshuffled but who do you think should be dropped? Nolan or Barton ?

I have a feeling we will cash in on both of them because they are both pushing 30 and will be worth nowt then

If we keep them both then Cabaye, Gosling and Arfa need to earn their places through effective sub appearances/when covering suspension injury

Don't think Gosling is anywhere near as good as our other midfielders?

Its too early to say and I don't necessarily think it is a case of dropping one of them. Will they still be there come the start of the season is the first question to ask.

Also other signings will probably happen which will throw in other possibilities. I'm hoping that by the start of the season many of the players who could take their starting place for granted this season will have to prove themselves in order to hold down a starting place. And this is all to the good of the club. But until we know who we have this is a futile exercise.

Think it's far too simplistic a question. Factoring in pre season, I expect our current midfield 4 (and Ben Arfa off the striker) to start next season and Cabaye, Gosling etc will have to earn their places. We will also rotate more and there will rarely be all of our midfield fit anyway. Neither.

I think although nolan scored alot of vital goals for us that he has a bigger influence on the team as a whole with just his character and the influence he has on others which is why id like to see him stay but not start every week

This. Cabaye cant just come here and expect to be in the first 11. He will have to earn his place ahead of Nolan, Barton, Guthrie etc.

Why? I'm sure if he agreed to come here, it would be because he's coming into the team straight away, I doubt he'll come here to warm the bench when he could have easliy stayed in Lille and had the guarantee of regular football & Champions League football. I think the club have guaranteed him regular football.. at the expense of? now that's anyone's guess. I hope it's ''My gran's faster than you'' Nolan. <laugh>

He cant come straight into the team though, he has to earn it first. I'm sure he'll be a starter, but in time.

Dont see why we'd drop Coloccini anyway ;)

Also what makes you think Cabaye can play left wing?

Can Cabaye play out on the wing????? Would be an even better signing if he can.

I imagine the plan is obviously for him to be a first team player - however if he doesnt show any decent form in pre season etc, or Nolan, Barton, Guthrie etc do, then he shouldnt be. Our midfield is probaly our strongest area, he will have to prove he is good enough to be one of the chosen CM's (which I'm sure he will do <ok>)

edit; Tash, Cabaye, left wing? Isn't he a box to box esque CM? <doh>

  20. Because Ben Arfa is higly rated by Pardew as a CAM, and Gutierrez should play on the RW on his stronger foot, so Cabaye on the LW ; )
