Footballers love a bit of handbags in a nightclub don't they.

They're not used to drinking, can't handle it, start getting into scrapes.

He'll go to Villa anyway I reckon.

    Mountains out of molehills.

    Swindon fans were bitter.

They broke into his cubicle and filmed him having a wazz. They deserved a punch.

They got a punch. The jury was a disgrace, must have been Swindon town fans.

    I don't want him.

Burnley footballer Charlie Austin has been found guilty of assaulting a man in a nightclub.

Swindon Magistrates' Court heard the 23-year-old punched Sam Webb, 20, in the face after an altercation in Bushwackers in Swindon on 13 October.

The former Swindon Town striker had denied the charge and said he was acting in self-defence.

He was found guilty of common assault by beating, fined £1,800 and ordered to pay £1,320 in costs.

The court was told that Mr Austin and his partner Bianca Parker, who live in Ramsbottom near Burnley, had returned to Swindon to visit Ms Parker's parents.

On the night of Saturday 13 October the couple were in the club in Swindon town centre.

Mr Webb told the court that he had disturbed Mr Austin in a toilet cubicle where he saw the footballer "hunched over" the toilet bowl.

    'Sniffing sound'
He said he heard a "sniffing sound" and suspected Mr Austin was using some kind of street drug.

Mr Webb said as a Swindon Town fan he recognised him and asked him why he was taking drugs when he was a professional footballer.

He said Mr Austin then swung at him in the toilet and missed, but later confronted him back in the club.

Mr Webb said he walked up to him and punched him "square in face" and "in revenge" because he was annoyed at being disturbed.

Mr Austin refuted any allegations of drug-taking saying it would end his career as a professional footballer as the FA carries out random drug-testing.

He claimed he was using a cubicle as the urinals were busy and said the door was opened by a group of men who were filming him on their phones because of who he was.

Mr Austin said he had experienced problems in Swindon since his transfer to Burnley in January 2011, from fans who were annoyed by his transfer.

He said he left the toilet and Mr Webb and another man came towards him in "a threatening manner" and he punched him in self defence.

Magistrates decided that there had been no threatening behaviour from the witness, so Mr Austin had no grounds to claim self defence

Ah right, sorry. I looked on the forum threads and noticed that it's not on the latest list as this is a new article posted today from the BBC. My apologies OLM.

Courts clearly had grounds to charge him, if he's a druggy we don't want him.

Doubt he would be taking drugs as he would be banned if he was caught, doesn't coke stay in the system for something like 6 months or something. I think traces in the kidneys for 6 years, someone told me the other day.

I think that's right Bruce (the 6 months bit anyway).

He wasn't convicted of taking drugs (or even charged with possession of any drugs), nor was he convicted of what happened in the bogs.

He was convicted of punching him in the club, presumably, in front of a shed load of witnesses

    You're kidding no one.

Last time a load of blokes filmed you in a bog you charged them £10 each and put on a turn.

    It's on you tube.

    Seventeen views to date.

Reminds me of a pissed up Ron Jeremy.

At the end of the day, maybe he sniffed whilst taking a piss, nothing sinister about sniffing is there?

Anyway, if this Mr Webb claims he saw Austin 'hunched over the toilet' it makes Austin's story more believable because if you we're doing a bit of Charlie (ironic) you wouldn't leave the door wide open!

Probably the fan mischief making and then Austin's lost his head a bit and twatted when he saw him later on.

He's convicted of the latter and I imagine most of us have had a scrap once in a while, only difference is we're not professional footballers so we don't get taken to court for doing it.

Here here. As long as his social life doesn't affect his football then he can do what he likes.

If he's been taking drugs, he'll be found out. As for the assault, I agree with OLM.

To a point yes. But there are limits. I prefer footballers who are never heard of away from the football field.

Paul Scholes was a master of it. Does anyone know what Messi does away from the game ? Nope.

Sounds all too similar to Danny Coles.

Didn't he batter someone in a club before signing for us?
