For me it has to be Glasvegas at Hull Uni a couple of years back. They are sublime. Going to see them in Newcastle in a couple of weeks too. please log in to view this image
Radiohead at Reading a couple of years ago. I love them and have seen them a few times but the way the did a festival set was breathtaking. Rage Against the Machine at Reading too were an awesome spectacle. Kasabian at Brixton or Elbow's short notice support for Muse at Nottingham were special too.
My youthfulness will probably be looked down at here but so far (I'm only 22) the best I've been to is Swedish House Mafia in Amsterdam. Me and my mate had been buzzing for months about going. Imagine it yourself, going to see your favourite music artist(s) on their last tour in a City like that. We were flying the same day as the gig, SHM started at 10pm and we were flying at 6am. Our 6am flight was cancelled due to snow in Amsterdam which was due to be cleared later on. The buzz was killed. Stood in a queue for 5 hours which resulted in us getting other flights via Birmingham. We had to wait on the first flight and got down to Brummy at half 4 - just to see our next flight had a massive delay. Gutted! 6pm was our flight and there was a huge delay, lets not forget they're an hour in front of us in Holland. There was a 5:50pm flight with no delays though. We managed to worm our way onto that flight which resulted in a mad sprint to board the plane. 8pm we touched down at Schiphol airport, 8.15 we got off the plane. The airport is absolutely huge, instead of going to our hotel we found lockers in the airport which you can keep stuff in overnight, dumped our bags there and then jumped in a 60 euro taxi to the Ziggo Dome - arrived there and got in at 9:30pm. I think the whole lead up to it made the gig even better, there was a couple of times throughout the journey we thought we wouldn't make it. Will take something special to beat that day.
Pixies at Glastonbury in 1989 were jaw dropping. Never heard them before then but they blew me away. (Martin Stephenson and the Daintees were also brilliant Dan) Best I've seen in memory though were Primal Scream at Glastonbury in 1992. Screamadelica basically. Superb. I'm not really even at Primal Scream fan and that is the only album of theirs I own but it was just a right good night, the main stage was **** that year and Morrissey cancelled, all the good stuff was on the NME stage.
The Black Crowes - Norwich UEA, small venue with the band playing songs from the first album it was brilliant.
