He'll have to get a hell of a lot better.

And City would have to stay in the premier league for a good few years.

If England have any ambition to win something at International level they shouldn't pick players from the lower half of the premier league. Simple as.

Will people stop going on about Chester's height, its boring. Cannavero, Baresi and Beckanbaur where all under 6ft. They are three of greatest defenders ever.

I take it you didn't go to Palermo away in 1984?

That's all well and good saying that, but they do have to select English players remember.

Chester is probably the best defenfer that I've seen in a city shirt. If he continually improves then I don't see why an england cap would be out of the question

Imo Chester is an all round better defender than Hobbs. Not sayimg Hobbs is bad, but I rank Chester as the best I've seen, then Turner and after him there's no massive stand out ones

With Hull City back in the PL and 2014 England WC places up for grabs James Chester has much to aim for.

From what I have seen, he seems better as a right sided centre back on a 442 formation than on the right of this 352. Still good in both formations, but more suited IMO to the back 4.

I agree, I think in a 3 when he's playing with 2 bigger players he should be the central one and play a sweeper role using his intelligence to be where the other two can't be. Being on the right of it is what creates the opportunity for the opposition to target his lack of height. The striker just goes to his side and pulls a bit wider than normal, and it leaves Faye (usually central when played with Hobbs on the left) unable to come across and help. With Elmo already out of it as he's still tracking back when the opposition play it long it's virtually a free header for them. With Chester sat in the middle the striker can target him as much as he wants, unless they've got 3 up front there'll only ever be one of the two big men marking a striker so the other can come narrower without it leaving a whole at the heart of the defence.
