Just guaging reaction on the latest news/rumours........

OK so we've signed Mehdi Abeid and when he's completed national duties Yohan Cabaye will be signing on the dotted line.

We've also been mouted as possible destinations for Gervinho, Demba Ba and Larson.

But what are everyones reactions to these players (and possibly anyone else rumoured to be joining)?

Personally Cabaye will be a great signing for the toon. From what i've been reading/hearing he will hopefully be a great team player and add something i think we've been lacking - a bit of finesse.

Abeid - i can't really comment as haven't heard much about him. But hopefully he'll settle well here.

Gervinho - while obviously a good player i'm struggling to understand why he's still being mentioned when he has been quoted as saying he wants to play in europe next season. While i think he would be another good signing i can't see it happening.

Demba Ba - I wouldn't be overly fussed if we missed out on Ba. Yes he has scored in the premiership since he came over here but we all know some players can be one season wonders which is what i suspect he may be. He also failed a medical at Stoke which means there may be some underlying problems. I would rather us go for Gameiro who has had 2-3 seasons scoring regularly and would not be missing during the african cup of nations.

 

Forgot bout Larson - This all depends on Barton. If Barton is leaving then yes by all means Larson would be a good replacement. However if Barton stays i don't think we will need him.

 

Good thread. You've missed out a few though. Gamiero and the likes.

 

Cabaye - great signing if it happens, i'm sure he will be a good asset to the team.

Gervinho - I would cream my pants if this happened, but like you I don't think it will. I think he will go somewhere where he can play european football. Hope we are wrong though.

Ba - like you I hope we don't get him. Possible sicknote in the making. We have signed enough crocks over the years and there are plenty of other candidates out there to look at.

Abeid - never heard of him before, but in Carr we trust!

 

Apparently Gervinho is considering a contract - hence why he is being spoken about.

Also heard that we arent going for Larsson as we want a 'higher quality' of player. Which is nice to hear although I wouldnt mind him here.

Wasn't aware that Ba had failed a medical at Stoke. A lot of clubs will be in for him so not sure whether we will get him or not. Would like him as hes a good player, but tbh I'd be happy with any decent striker - it feels like its been so fecking long since we've had one.

 

Cabaye is a top player, great signing for a very good price. Abeid is exactly the types of signing we should be making to accompany the first team signings... young with potential. Gervinho is undoubtedly class and we still have a good chance of getting him. Ba is unlikely and Larsson will not be coming.

 

Not only did Ba fail his medical at Stoke but the same problem showed up in his West Ham medical. The Hammers had to take out a very expensive additional insurance policy in order for the condition to be covered. With that in mind I think we should get somebody else if we can because there is obviously a problem there.

Hard to thin k who it could be but Sturridge.

Abeid seems canny he posted is a video of him on facebook chat and seemed very grateful for my welcoming comments. Cabaye looks a quality player from what have seen from him and he plays international football. Ba is no where near good enough and I hope we don't sign him. Larsson might be a good squad player but he would just be another Raylor in my opinion. I hope we get Gervinho, he is mint.

 

We will get the lot but not Ba he aint up to it

If we don't get Gameiro i'd like to see us go for Defoe or even Pavlyuchencko.

 

Really I'm not so keen on either of them and they will be on daft wages.

Defoe is gauranteed to score goals if he stays fit. Think he'd be a good buy, he's hungry to play.

 

Could have sworn their wage cap is something like 80 or 100k a week. Made me wonder why they bother.
