An interesting article I came across.
It got me thinking... would I want Ba back?
The short answer is yes indeed and I can see him leaving Chelsea when Mourinho arrives TBH.

    http://soccerwithoutlimits.com/newc...-set-to-make-a-sensational-10m-return/27979/?

As Newcastle remain unmoved by reports linking Papiss Cisse with a transfer to Anzhi Makhachkala, Senegal compatriot Demba Ba could be on his way back to Tyneside. Jose Mourinho’s imminent takeover at Chelsea has plunged the majority of the first team squad at Stamford Bridge on transfer red alert. Ba’s dream move to the European Champions quickly turned into a nightmare on his first return to Newcastle when his nose was broken by Fabricio Coloccini and his new side lost 3-2 at St. James’ Park. With The Special One expected to bring in at least one world class striker on a shortlist thought to include Cristiano Ronaldo and Edison Cavani in a swap deal with Napoli for Torres, Ba could find himself surplus to requirements at his new club already. With the recalled Romelu Lukaku seen as the future Didier Drogba, Mourinho will look to hone his talent one-on-one rather than let him go out again on loan.

Former Newcastle fans favourite Ba left St. James’ Park in January when his infamous release clause was finally triggered for £7.5M. Yet his regular goals were sorely missed by Newcastle whose striking options were severely limited when a deal for Loic Remy, Ba’s intended replacement, fell through. Since signing for West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2011, Ba banged in 29 goals in 54 games for The Magpies including memorable strikes against Manchester United, Everton and everyone else. He was the last man to score from a corner for the club and his 13 Premier League goals in 20 games last season meant he finished Newcastle’s top League scorer despite leaving in January although Cisse notched 13 in all competitions. As well as his goals, Newcastle fans have called repeatedly for a revival of the 4-3-3 attacking and entertaining formation fronted by Ba, Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa that wreaked havoc in the latter stages of 2011/2 as The Magpies qualified for Europe.

Ba’s high wage demands were one reason he couldn’t agree an extension on his Newcastle contract in January yet Mike Ashley and the Newcastle board may be prepared to revise their current pay structure now Premier League status has been assured and a share of the £3 billion TV money secured. Alan Pardew has made no secret of the fact he believes Newcastle need to alter their target player market to equip the squad with more experience especially of The Premier League and Demba Ba’s return is a no-brainer in that regard. Ba received a mixed reception on his return in the February 3-2 by fans at once recognising the heights his goals took Newcastle to while being less than impressed with perceived money-grabbing and his ill-advised comments on joining Chelsea about finally playing with world class players.

With a striker top of Alan Pardew’s shopping list, Ba is a Premier League striker of the highest calibre and would be welcomed with open arms by a club that was nearly relegated without him while the player himself would be guaranteed the first team football he is missing at Chelsea. Bring back Demba Ba and his strawberry sauce and Newcastle United will fly again.

I'd welcome Ba back, he put the ball in the net and that's what we need.

Would love to see Demba back. He was great for us and just accepted a no brainer move for him to play at the highest level. Exactly what we need too. No ill feeling towards him whatsoever.

Of course I'd have him back. he held up his side of the bargain in all of our delaings with him.

I cna't see how his wages wil have ceased to be an issue, though.

I'd take him back but not for that much. We let him go for free.

    6-8m.

I love how some fans seem to hate every player that leaves us. Give over man. He left a team that was ****e for a team pushing for 2nd place.

    Always put the effort in.

    Couldn't fault him for trying.

Can't see what relevance what we let him go for has to his value. he's a 20 goal a season striker: the going rate seems ot be about £1 million per goal.

Yeah, but he hasn't really done all that much at Chelsea and Murinho will probably want rid to find someone more in his style.

Plus, Chelsea didn't pay anything for him, so a 7-8m profit for doing nothing is a good bit of business.

Pointless signing for me. Granted he always gives 100% but he is in football for the money and has admitted as much. So if we sign him and he does well in 6 months time if a bigger team comes in he'll be gone.

We need to be thinking more long term for me.

Every playeer is in it for the money - - the only difference is that Ba is honest.

If someone wants to pay us what we think he's worth next time around, then we will be in exactly the same situation we would be in with every other player

If a big club comes in for any of our players, they'll be gone.

There is no 100% loyalty in football, and regardless of how many sloppy interviews they give about loving Newcastle, they'd all be gone for a top 4 club on 70k wages.

The bloke has still shown interest in us despite not being here, which shows he still has some love for the team. It's not as if we sign him at finish 11th, he'll be gone if 8th place Swansea come in for him.

He'd go for a big club, as would all our players, but I don't think many would come in for him really. He's done **** all at Chelsea.

Chelsea paid £7.5 million. the fact that we netted very little doesn't mean htat they didn't pay it. Or that other clubs won't be willign to pay what he's worth

Yeah but the difference is Cabaye etc don't go whoring themselves around to attract a buyer. Ba did exactly this both himself and via the 162 agents that he has and it unsettled the team.

He's proven his pedigree with us and has never spoken of us in anything other than a positive light before or after his move. I'd have him back in a heartbeat provided he'd sign a contract with no release clause, or one that reflected his true value.

Agree here. It's all about money nowadays and to be fair to Demba he never tried to say otherwise.
It hurt when he left, certainly... but we need a striker who can score regularly and he is that man.

If we had any possible chance of getting him back, we should do it 100%. proven goalscorer, sadly can't see it happening though.

I'd have him back, but for the exact amount we received from his transfer and on the exact wages he was on before. If either he or chelsea say no to that, he can **** off

Right, we were stupid enough to sign a £20 million striker on a free and insert a £7.5 million release clause in his contract, and that means Chelsea should have to sell him back to us for £7.5 million ?

    Why ?

It was our idiocy to insert the clause: all Chelsea did was agree to pay it.

You couldn't blame Demba leaving earlier this year. He was top scorer in a team playing ****, clueless manager and given the chance of European Champs football it really was a no brainer. Always gave of his best and it wasn't his fault the idiots at St.James Park put a stupid clause in hid contract. ( It also looks like another stupid
clause has been put in Tiote's contract which sees us lose out big time )
I'd have him back but we'd need to use our forwards properly this time and not play Cisse as a winger.
