I can't help feeling we might finish up signing Stockdale. I think SB is just playing a waiting game and staying quiet and there are a few red herrings being floated around.
Totally agree. With the Stekelenburg news it's clear Fulham dont see Stockdale as an option and I also feel we have been linked with other keepers - quite deliberately from our end I suspect - to show we wont be held to ransom. I still think we'll get Sotckdale for around £2m.
Well if Lesta and Fulham are going to ask for silly money for the likes of Kaspar Schmeichel and David Stockdale then lets go for the much cheaper option. Shay Given and / or Mark Schwarzer.
If this new fulham keeper is cheaper than what they are asking for David, then if I was Stockdale I would be very upset that my club was preventing me from progressing in my career and I would be having words with my agent and trying to force through a transfer
I'm not sure I'd be too happy with having Given or Schwartzer as a number 1, but I'd be happy to have them as back up. Schmeichel would be my preferred option as our starting keeper; maybe we'll have to splash out a bit to get him, but I can't see Leicester holding out for too much. Goalkeepers don't tend to fetch as much as outfield players; I'd guess that £3.5m with add ons and maybe a player exchange will be the final sum we will settle on, with Cameron Stewart as the makeweight.
According to the Guardian Liverpool want Mingolet (sorry if wrong spelling) and given the choice of us or them most keepers would choose being 1st choice at Anfield to being 1st choice with us, unless they are a Hull fan
If we get Schmeichel, in a couple of months time we will all be complaining that he flaps too much. Thats not to say he isnt a decent keeper, but most city fans seem to have him on some sort of perch these days.
