Nobody in their right mind would pay 20 - 25 million for a 29 year old! So I think we are safe there lads haha

Put Sess in Man City or Arsenal's team and would have 20 assists every season, and to the graham comment, he set him up twice against the Mags and DG missed.

We would never replace Sess, such a fluke getting him when we did. Love him or hate him but Brucey assembled one of the best teams we have ever seen in Red and White.

Every player has their price. No one is un-sellable.

If we can get 10-12mil for him fair enough.

The problem with Sess hasnt been the player. Its been the managements insistence to shoehorn the system around him.

I personally think Mig, Alf, AJ and Fletch are more important to the team rather than sess's undoubted individual quality.

You'd think Journo's would do a little research - Paolo Di Canio appealed the red card and, therefore, didn;t think it was a red card - so why the **** would that be a reason to sell him!! I love black and white biassed journalism!!

Can't believe some people are saying sell one of our best players as soon as the slightest speculation shows it's head. Some have been saying the same about Mig. I thought people wanted us to progress? We haven't even seen what he's like after a PDC preseason and the new style that's coming. Baffling.

We are toothless without sess, will be gutted if he goes but I don't see it myself. He's 29-30 now so I can't see teams wanting to pay around the 10m we will demand.

Plus he has only just got his family settled in the NE, doubt he's going to uproot them again as he seems like a family bloke.

If push comes to shove and we have to sell to buy, and that means one of our only sellable players has to leave (we only have two) i'd rather lose Sess than Mig.

Are we going backwards again ?, Mcmanaman or Milner would replace him or even both, hopefully ndye and Johnson get their fingers out next season as well.

McManaman replace Sessegnon? Really? A kid that, according to Martinez, can't be told until the morning of the game that he's playing as he's too wound up?? And, although he's OK, he's nowhere near Sessegnon's quality

I like Milner but he's a totally different style of player to Sessegnon - much more defensively minded

I'm not saying we should sell him, Just that every player has a price.

For all their horse punching the mags do seem to have a decent policy of selling players for maximum price (ba aside) If a club comes in with a good bid, one that means we can buy replacements then why not? No player is bigger than the club.

12 million? he is worth more than that to us. Not saying he would actually be worth more than that on the open market at 29 years old, but we cannot let him go for 12 million. 12 million wouldnt buy a replacement. It would take 20 million to get someone in of the same quality.

Even if we got 2 players in for the 12 million, which players available for 6 million would make up for the loss of a player of Sess's quality?

12 million is about what he's worth. He's 29. Got one last long term contract with him.

People go on about his quality, and I agree he is a top player for us. But I can't help feel he's a big fish in a small pond.

If we keep him then yes, he will be a very important player for us and I would love to see him in red and white next year and play with us for some time. But his value is only going to go down as he gets older. IF we get the right offer we seriously need to consider it.

How about answering who we would be able to get in for 12million to replace Sess? Name me one player who would be sold by their club for 12 million who we know is as good as Sess, and would be willing to come and play for us.

edit: and who would satisfy Di Canio's work ethic

i think we need to start playing him on the wing instead of trying to make him into a number 10. he played there a few times when we played 4-4-2 and looked really good. he is not a stirker and never will be, we should just invest in a proper striker and stick sess in midfield

    Let's turn it around then.

How much do you you think a good player that is 29/30 won **** all, shows glimpses of brilliance on ocassions is worth?

12 million should be able to buy a lot of decent players, in fact i'd go as far as to say, we'd never get 12 million for him....

    6-7 tops.

This is why we are getting a new scouting system in. There are players out there who you can get fro decent value

Look at Michu, Swansea bought him for 2.5million. He plays attacking midfield and up front. He's scored more than Sess this season.

If we look abroad there is value to be had.

As for knowing if anyone will be AS good its impossible. Sess could have been a total flop. Any player could be, its always a risk when you spend a significant amount of money on a player.

we have needed a new scouting system for years though. ever since keane we have been buying domestic based players and have had our eyes taken out for players when we could have found a viable, cheaper option abroad. its a joke that it has took this long to sort it out. the people at the toip have been seeing what grahem carr has been doing for the scum for years but still nobody tried anything different

    My a slant on this is this;

I think the question should be, what is Sess worth in terms of BOTH,

A/ His contribution to our all round game, which includes his abilities to - find a pass, read the game, his quick thinking, quick feet, creating of chances, his team presence and his eye for goal, etc, etc, regardless of him drifting in and out of matches, for whatever reasons.

B/ His price tag (in this current market) relating to his excellent abilities, and what they will bring to any free flowing, attack minded team.

In which case, and in my opinion, I would price him around the 15m mark.

He is an asset to our team, make, no mistake. Yes he has his faults, but just about every single player alive has faults, right ?

Every player has a price, you say ?...well yes of course I agree with that. However, we need to be paying shed loads of money for players with this ability, not selling them.

In short, he is one of the most exciting players I have ever seen in a Sunderland shirt.
