In that Guardian article it quotes Roy turning to Frank and saying "we don't discuss formation". Well what the hell is he doing there! I understand the importance of a formation can be overplayed but surely the players need to know where each other will be and should be. Sounds like the impression of go out there and run about is not that far from the truth. Shocking!
I am not suggesting it should be. Forget Rickie for a moment, what about Gary Hooper? Jay Rodriguez? Adam Le Fondre? Charlie Austin? He has chosen not to call a backup striker and then bemoaned the lack of attacking options to the media, it's ludicrous!
Hooper should without a doubt get a chance. Le Fondre, not so much and Austin probably needs a year in the prem. As for Jay Rod i'd like to see him break through next year if he carries on at his current rate.
Hodgson is a tactically rigid and ****e coach. Edit: the two quality finishes against Brazil do nothing to revoke that. His narrow-mindedness in his team selections is pathetic.
A stroke of luck for England tonight, the team was in dire need of someone to win a header in the first half! Hint hint..
England tried to play from the back in the 1st half to disastrous effect. Often we would panic and hit it long. That's why we need someone who can at least compete to win these hoofs. Then I couldn't believe my eyes, Jack Rodwell! What about Jack Cork, Leon Osman, Leon Brittan. It seems if you're u23 and are in the squad of a top team you're in the squad despite only getting 5-10 starts a season, but if you play for anyone else you have to prove yourself consistently for 3 seasons.
