Maybe passion is the wrong word however look at the Sunderland game I can't remember a derby with so little energy nor effort.

Barton is a massive tool on occasion but I miss having him on the pitch (when he wasn't banned / first in the showers) I do think there is a strong need for us to develop more home grown talent. We are very poor at bringing through youngsters. The balance needs to be right however. We need to make sure we have the required first team quality to start next season.

We need to improve the system and probably the quality of training equipment at the academy too.

He's a clever player and has been ok in the championship but to me looked nothing like a world beater or game changer. Very slight built and even at 18 I'd expect him to be stronger. I'm all for supporting English talent but £10mill is double his worth.

oh yeah, and he looks like Draco Malfoy.

The problem is that, while he probably is only worth £5m market values are what you actually have to pay.

If someone else is willing to artifically inflate prices (looking at you Liverpool etc) then unfortunately you have to pay the going rate regardless of actual worth.

So, the club probably has a decision to make in terms of do they sign home grown players who are going to cost more and therefore not able to make more signings, or go abroad and get better value, but risk the gutless/heartless/no fight comments from fans/media if things don't go well immediately.

I'm not arsed what we pay or don't pay. Looks a good player so I'd take him.

Indeed. I just don't understand why fans worry about how we pay for a player. I mean I understand they worry about us doing a Fat Fred and saddling the club with debt. Ashley isn't going to do that though so I couldn't really care what a player costs. Unless buying means we won't get 2 strikers :emoticon-0106-cryin
