We have had a couple of very strong rumours about Aden Flint and the goalkeeper, Flinders which as yet have come to nothing. With my pessimistic hat on, this summer seems to be developing into a repeat of 2012. At this moment we have a requirment for four new players; two goalkeepers and two new centre backs. The two new centre backs are paramount to pushing up season ticket sales because as it goes in Aladdin "New lamps for old", we must have "New Centre Backs for Old tired and Failed Centre Backs". And two keepers to replace now non-existent ones. New recruits for any other position will depend on who departs out of the current squad of 23 players, For example, if Albert goes, we get a winger. If Davies goes, we go for a new striker. But two new Centre-Backs will show us all that the Club really does mean business for the coming season. If nothing transpires, we still are left with three "Old Lamps"
What "New Lumps for Old"? We'd then have to keep Fontaine, because on every commentary last season, it was said"Fontaine lumps it down the wing"
But two new Centre-Backs will show us all that the Club really does mean business for the coming season. If nothing transpires, we still are left with three "Old LUMPS" was the part I was really thinking about though to be fair it should be 'one old player and TWO LUMPS' Do you think Sean has to sit down and look at the team sheet on matchdays and think 'MMMM one lump or two today'?
To answer the question, no but if you actually stop and think about it for a minute, I suspect the club is a little hamstrung at the moment not knowing who of last seasons squad is staying or going and the problem is that in the unlikely event that they all stay, we are probably dangerously close to being over the 60% cap already. So, until we know for a fact that the likes of Albert, Davies, Baldock, Cunningham are definitely committed to either staying or going (and if its the latter, they have to find clubs first), then I suspect we will have to play the waiting game for a bit. If this is the case, I think we need to all agree to a moratorium on threads like this because in the nicest possible way, that are frankly, pointless. It would be good if the club could maybe make a statement to clarify this point...
I just wish for once the players, such as Mr Kilkenny and Mr Fontaine would think about the club first and bugger off. Not going to happen of course but it would be nice if underachieving players would ride off into the sunset.
There is a bit of Deja Vue I am worried about if the clubs who want our players try and wait til the last day or couple of days of the transfer window hoping to get bargains ala the case with Maynard in the Jan window Big Sam took a gamble and waited til about the last day to bid knowing that City would have to sell or lose him for nothing so could offer much less than other clubs had offered previously especially as Maynard obviously wanted out and had lost the fans at the Gate.
