He was only 19 and yes he was a bit of a rough diamond but as one or two other people have said earlier on in the thread; he gave some very experienced centre backs a pretty torrid time. It seems like some of those rough edges have been polished into something far more rounded and I think he'd be a perfect fit for us now. Unfortunately, I guess he's probably out of our reach now but I'd have him back in a heartbeat!
He was still a young lad, he's had more time to develop. He has everything in his locker to be a great talent, surely you could see that? He just didn't necessarily knit it all together with us. He did scare the **** out of some top class defenders when he was with us, let's also not forget he was playing in a thoroughly **** side.
I must say I find it amusing how everyone now claims to have seen what a great player he would become. At the time most people thought he was cack. I may be the only one admitting to this but at least I'm honest. He scored how many ? Please don't insult me with the old line of centre forwards don't have to score to be affective. I'm fully aware of that but I can't remember him having that many assists either. I just didn't rate him at the time and I'm quite surprised I'm the only one that apparently didn't. He was poor. IMO.
Fine, your opinion, even it is wrong. I rated him when he was here, just most of the rest of the team and management were shank. Please don't insult people by insinuating your opinion is the only correct one.
I notice a few people have said his finishing wasn't good enough but I remember thinking at the time how it was weird that he just never got into goal-scoring positions. When a striker doesn't score it isn't necessarily a lack of shooting ability and I always thought Jozy was a good example of that, he played 90% of the time with his back to goal and rarely got in the area. He was like Simpson was this season. He had JVoH playing alongside him who complimented him well because he was always near the goal and scored a few tapins as a result of that. Pissed me off that they hardly ever played together but looked good whenever they did.
I'm not sure how I've done that exactly. It's all about opinions, you're the one taking the moral high ground by saying my opinion is wrong. The thing I said to Bob was a joke by the way. I thought he was ****, you thought he was good. Nothing to get stroppy about.
Credit where it's due. He played well with Ghilas against Bolton and for some unbeknown reason Brownie never played them together again. He put in some decent performances, some half decent performances and some turgid ones. He didn't score goals and his first touch was poor. He fell over too easy and didn't create enough chances for those around him. Apart from that he was great. IMO.
I'm not, it was your point about "Don't insult me about forwards not scoring etc" No moral high ground at all, he was a good player, playing in a garbage team. He was also very young, I think the fact he's moved around a bit and experienced different leagues will have really helped him develop. He also worked tirelessly for the team, which for me is a pre requisite. I want to see a player whatever their ability go out and put every sinew of effort in for 90 minutes. I accept some players will have less ability, what I don't want to see are shirkers that don't put in the effort. I've enjoyed this season for that very reason, I always felt whoever started always put the effort in hence the team have performed probably greater than the sum of its parts in terms of securing an auto slot.
He played several games up top alone prior to JVoH's arrival. Once he got here I thought he improved immensely. Then again Caleb Folan scored more goals in one game at Pompey than Jozy did all year. I'm also an incredibly biased American!
Fair play mate, sorry if I came across a bit arsey. By sounds of it he's developed in the three seasons he's been away and given the chance it'd be silly not to want him back. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on the lad but I still stand by what I say regards his time here. I'm sure he missed some absolute sitters, mis kicks from 6 yards out etc. Maybe as he he gets better in some people's minds in mine he gets worse? Good luck to the lad wherever he ends up because as you say he put a shift in. His headbut was a bit feeble mind.
Jozy was decent for us but didn't score anywhere near enough goals to have his spell looked on as a success. Once he got the ball under control he looked a threat, the problem was his second touch was more often than not a tackle, and when he got through on goal he tried to blast the leather off the ball and it ended up in row Z more often than not. I think there were glimpses of the player he would become in his spell here but he was nowhere near the end product.
Can't understand this one. Ok, when he played he ran around a lot and give it his all. Did he have a nailed on place in the first eleven though? I can't recall that he did, although my memory might be letting me down there, and he may have suffered with injuries I suppose. I seem to recall a lot of time on the bench. He certainly didn't set the world alight for me in what was a fairly average team. Maybe he's improved, maybe he's found his level. I'd look elsewhere.
Never forgiven Hutton for that, what a twat, he went down like he'd been shot. They should be able to retrospectively ban players for fraudulently getting other players red carded.
Face it Carmine. You're WRONG, WRONG, WRONG on this one. And it's too late, after who knows how many glasses of Aldi red, to start back tracking and apologising! My God man, what's wrong with you - start drinking beer. I do like the fact that at least you didn't suggest as others have - "we're not good enough for him".
I have followed Jozy's career since he left us. I have got myself into no end of trouble because I chastised his supporters for 'bigging him up' when he was nowhere near ready for the EPL when he played for us. I was banned from the USA "Big Soccer" Boards. Jozy had no left foot, no heading ability and no sense of 'finding the empty space when he played for us. He admitted (in tweets to my Grandsons that 'he didn't do training too good') and he was a disaster at Bursaspor where he went out on loan after us (1 goal in 9 games). However, when he went to AZ, he was mentored by someone who he started to take notice of and he knuckled down to doing some hard yards and developing his game. Have a look at his recent videos on YouTube and you will see that he scores equally well with either foot and/or his head and finds the 'empty space' with ease. This is in the Eredivisie and not Serie A, the EPL or the Bundesliga where he would face better quality defenders. The lad has matured and there are (unsubstantiated) reports that he his AZ Alkmaar Club have received approaches from Lazio, Schalke, Betis and 2 (unnamed) EPL Clubs. My personal opinion is that Jozy would make it big in the Bundesliga as they seem to play his style of football (direct) but I think they would have his measure in the EPL. The Italian League may suit him but recent racist taunts (especially at Lazio) would deter him and I believe that Spanish Premier League football (possession) is not his style. I am positive that he would not come back to Hull City even though he may think he has 'unfinished business' with us as he would receive much better financial offers from other Clubs that we could not come close too. The lad has done well in the Eredivisie and he is happy there so with European Cup-Winners Cup football coming up next season he might decide to give it another season.
To be fair to Jozy when he was last with us he had alot going on off the field which had a big impact on his performances. Now that he is settled i would suggest that he would be much better next time around. But i guess that Jozy has other plans and Steve Bruce better targets in mind and in place. TWT.
Yes?? Tell us more....I quite liked him when he was with us despite his obvious lack of scoring. As TigerRoo points out he has obviously taken heed of a good mentor at AZ and has come good albeit in the Eredivisie. This reminds me of someone else we all know who also did extremely well in one of Europes lower divisions but had a bit of a torrid time with us last season, and that was at Championship level!
I'm afraid I'm with Carmine, he was **** for us. There's no doubt that he's a much better player now and it may well be that he just came to us too early. His positioning was poor, his ball control was messy, his only real talent was sitting down when anyone came near him, to win a free kick.
Is he getting a free transfer to the 1990s? I wonder what the ramifications will be of contemporary younger talent being poached/tapped up by different time periods?
