Newcastle are ready to pay £10million to sign Derby boy wonder Will Hughes.

The 18-year-old midfielder's performances for the Championship club has attracted interest from a host of top clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City.

But it's the Geordies who are ready to splash the cash and also offer to immediately loan Hughes back to the Rams for a season, which is likely to tempt boss Nigel Clough to strike a deal.

Hughes’ outstanding displays last term helped him win a call-up to the England Under-21 squad.

He recently signed a new contract *extension until the summer of 2016.

Hughes along with Thomas Ince would be a gigantic step in the right direction. I have my fingers crossed on this one.

The Journal also did a piece on this.

£4m for the player and £6m for his potential. Was Gareth Bale too expensive at £10m because of his age when he signed for Spurs?

Crafty Cloughie, just like his old man, that always adds a few more £'s to the fee.

Yep, he certainly has that in his blood. Would be good to see the Rams back in the Prem, I'd love to see at least 12 British managers in the Prem.

Was a big fan of old 'Big Head' back in the day, his job was to score goals and he didn't mind how he scored them. He'd push his own team mates off the ball if he had to.

You're a wee bit older than me... and I'm bald with a brand new grey hair on my sack, I discovered it last night.

    Can't see us paying £10m.
    For an 18 year old.
    From the Championship.

No way will Mike spend that kind of money on what would be essentially a development player.
I'd bid no more than £5m and then walk away.
The simple fact is that our strategy is to recruit cheap young players from abroad who's value will increase rather than over priced English players who may or may not increase in value.

Wouldn't say our French players were without passion, I'm sure they feel the pain of losing just as much as the next man. Everybody wants to be part of a winning team.

Don't know a lot about the lad, but he must be good if Man City and Tottenham have been looking at him. However I have to agree with you here.

I agree with you to some extent but you'll never see the heart and commitment from Sissoko, Cabaye etc as you would from Kevin Nolan or Joey Barton, all be it the 2 aforementioned French men are levels ahead in terms of technical ability. In my opinion we all have an obligation to English Football to have a big pool of talent for the National side to pick from, both from the youngsters and the first team too. There are not enough good English managers in the game and there's far too many average overseas players in this country plugging opportunity's for promising development players, here too.

It is criminal we have Jonas Gutierrez here, actually taking pitch time that could very will go to good use for Shane Ferguson and Gael Bigirimana to come through.

Think Jonas's days are numbered, we wont be seeing too much more of him.

Jonas tweeted a fan that he'd be here next season and I think Alan Pardew considers him George Best reincarnated, unfortunately I think he stays with us.
