Poised between a mediocre performance against Ireland and a potential humbling against Brazil it's time to assess the worst England player you have ever seen I would offer two that defy logic - Carlton Palmer - a relentless whirl of arms and legs to no purpose. However the worst ever has to be David Batty - an overrated clogger who was once used to advertise an England game dressed in stockings and suspenders! He was asked to take a penalty in a vital penalty shoot out which he missed ( he had never taken a penalty before). When he missed the bloke next to me shouted at the telly 'Don't know how to kick a ball coz you only know how to kick the opposition you ....!
John Barnes - a wizard in a Watford or Liverpool shirt, total dog-**** (excluding the odd decent goal) for England
Hmmm, some fine contributions already.....I think worthy additions would be John Fashanu and Stuart Ripley.
Steve Guppy, David Nugent, Terry Fenwick, Richard Wright, Darius Vassell (got over 20 caps), Andy Sinton, Frazier Campbell, Mark Hateley
Through the 86 World Cup, all I heard was "Fenwick gives away a free kick", "Fenwick..that's a foul".....all apart from the time Maradonna got the ball and scored THAT goal.
Jay Bothroyd. Half a decent season at Cardiff, in the Championship and he was England quality. Proved without a doubt he wasn't.
This absolutely shocking player. My Dad heard a story about someone who knew him briefly during his youth stint at Arsenal, his attitude is apparently horrific he ignored everyone there, just turned up and done his thing.
He most certainly would make the list! My main memory of his illustrious England career was taking "that" shot which limped out for a throw in.
Can't argue with any of the above, my first thought on reading the title was Carlton Palmer though! That said for sheer disappointment it would have to be John Barnes, so talented just never transfered his club form to England. Bah!
