I've run this idea out on the Morgan Schneiderlin recognition thread [Well done Morgan] and it seemed to get an initial thumbs up. I proposed the idea that we do our own Award for the best players to perform against Saints over last season. Finally, we end up with the best opposition team, possibly complete with a subs bench and manager. My idea is that we do the thing in stages. For example, over a period of a day or two, we nominate a GK who has done well against Saints. We can't just vote straight away on 21 odd keepers, because that would probably spread the vote so far it would be meaningless. What we need to do is get it down to a top 6 and then vote on them. This is in my opinion, of course. You may have a better idea. I did help run something like this before on TSW, which resulted in all the members voting on the Greatest Saints team ever. Back then I simply counted the nominations for each player in the position being examined and ended up with a selection to vote on. Then we voted in a poll and moved onto the next nominees for the next position. Our formation was 4-4-2, and we could argue the toss about that here. First of all though, do we want to do it..? Plus, are my fellow Mods ok with this [this is rather out of the blue]..? I'd like some feedback please. If someone suggests we could involve all of the Premier league NOT606 members, then I'm out of here. That would be the bottom line, as someone said recently. Maybe someone else could organise something for the following pre-season, involving everyone in PL Not606.
I think it's a great idea, I'm going out of my mind without any decent transfer stories, or actual football!
So it would be something like Thread 1. Which goalies were really good against saints this year? Thread 2. Poll of about 5 of the goalies mentioned. Repeat this for; RB LB CB (two votes here?) RM/RW CM (2 votes here?) LM/LW ST (2 votes here?) And we have an established first 11 then take the highest 2nd (or 3rd place) votes and use them as 7 subs? Would be good fun if someone takes responsibility for creating the threads and keeping score.
I'm for it because all I have to do is type a few letters and click the odd poll, so why not? All seems swell to me. I'm scared of anything outside the nice and comfy confines of our board though, please don't let the bad people near me.
Sounds like a great idea to me, although I think I know what I'll be picking already; The Arsenal XI that played us at the Emirates! Ouch.
Keep your powder dry, you two. We need a fair few people giving this idea the nod before we go into it. Otherwise we'll end up with half a dozen or so members voting and it won't mean a thing and people will lose interest fast.
Thank you Chilco. This thing may not even get off the starting blocks. I want more than an enthusiastic few before we get going.
Yes, that's an excellent suggestion. Hang on a moment. Just have to close the thread while I make some changes. Sorry about the complication, but it seems your Poll suggestion would be worth it. EDIT: OK, there's a Poll open above. Cast your vote.
