Remember this lad, once of the famous mighty mags for a short time. Seems like he's doing well now, and is destined for the big time, mind it will take some getting into that barca side. Anyhow the mag reject , can't remember the story on him leaving, got me thinking, what was our biggest **** up in letting a player go? Barcelona will beat Tottenham to the signing of former Manchester United reserve Giuseppe Rossi in a staggering £40million deal. The Champions League winners hope to tie up the stunning move for Villarrealâs Italian international striker in the next couple of weeks and dash Spursâ dreams. Rossi was the target of a £32million offer from Tottenham in the last window and supremo Daniel Levy was holding out hope that the forward would say yes in the summer. However, Barca have now opened talks with Villarreal over their prolific forward, who has grown in stature since leaving Old Trafford as a kid, and they expect to get their man shortly. Barca will make space for Rossi in their attack despite buying David Villa last summer and the emergence of Pedro this past season - and the player is willing to take his chances in such exalted company. Villarreal are already planning to spend the Rossi fee on two or three new players, and will still have some money left over.
We brought a young guy over on a weeks trial in the time of Peter Reid. he had just come back from a bad injury a broken leg I think and Reid decided he wasn't good enough. Oh how things may have been different if we had signed Rutgerus Johannes Martinus van Nistelrooij or Ruud van Nistlerooy as he was better know.
seems to be worth a lot of money now, did he finish his loan spell, or did you not have the option to keep him. or was it his choice to leave?
We got him on a few month loan I think, scored 2 goals I think and Man Utd called him back. He was never ours to take and Fergie always said he would be back. Seems like a late bloomer but good luck to the lad.
aye, he was farmed out to the mags to get some first team football, they didn't let him go, fergie did though, him and pique are two big ones to lose, especially for the money they got for them. not seen much of rossi in la liga, but £40m seems pretty steep. arshavin to the mags would be a cracking signing, too inconsistent for a top club but would be just the thing for them, or us come to that, as long as he wasn't on crippling huge wages.
Fergie wasn't happy that he wasn't getting many games, but I can't remember him being that amazing to be honest. He certainly seems to have improved his game in Italy and Spain. Maybe England wasn't right for him, as it isn't for a lot people.
To be fair when the Mags had Rossi he was unpolished, and there were justified doubts about his ability to cut it physically in the EPL, as he's a ****ing dwarf. He's blossomed massively in Spain, but then you get time on the ball around the edge of the box, and he has a ferocious left foot on him. All the big teams in Italy have been after him for years, but none of them can afford him, remember when Italian sides used to dominate the big transfer fees? If i recall correctly, and Mags feel free to correct me, i think SAF recalled Rossi as he was expecting him to play every game, and the Toon refused, quite rightly, to guarantee this.
This might have been the case actually. He played against Pompey in the LC and scored 2, but apart from that he didn't really have much, not worth the risk from our point of view.
I'm sure this was the case, and they refused to loan you Tom Cleverley as a result. Rumoured that we had a similar clause in the Welbeck deal as well.
This just proves the arrogance of Manchester United in my opinion. SAF would rather have his own players in the reserves at Man Utd than on the bench for another Premier League club. Fair enough you take players on loan to give them games, but you can't be expected to play them for 90mins every week.
Agree mate, and that's why, despite the fact the lad is superb, very few of us want him back on loan. We all want him for keeps mind, he's gonna be sensational.
