Right now we currently have Kedwell, Burton, Birchall and Weston. The expected and looming arrival of Cody McDonald will take us to 5, Nathan Nyafli should have more appearances which takes us to 6 and there's the potential of signing German too. Now my maths isn't brilliant but surely having 7 strikers will be too much? I get Weston will probably be more used as a winger because of his pace but I still think 6 strikers is too much for a League One team. Who is going to make way? Who would people want to leave? Burton is the only striker out of contract with both Keds & Birchall with a year to go, who do we get rid of?

Its a good thing to bring up but I can only see it be a positive! Firstly sorry to be pedantic but Weston is seems to be much more of a winger in Allen's eyes and think he won't play up front again regularly. Also Nyafli is likely to be sent on loan so we would only have 5 proper strikers. This isa huge bonus to us as over recent years I've always thought we have been short up front and unable to change things if necessary. With 5 strikers it will mean we have 2 on the pitch, 2 on the bench and 1 in the reserves meaning there will always be competition for places amongst the squad as I don't think that any one of Birchill, Kedwell, Burton, McDonald or German will simply be happy to not get into the match day squad at all. Anyway if I had to pick one striker to leave it would be Birchill as I feel he will be a bit of a Simon King, constantly worried about another injury and everyone wincing to see him go for a 50/50. If I had my way I'd send him away for the whole season to somewhere like Wimbledon to get him to play 46 games and score 20 goals and come back and have a completely fresh start at the club.

would like to see birchall go out on loan for the first part of the season and given a run in a team to really see what he can do at league level. he always looked sharp when he came on but lacking that final killer instinict and finishing that comes with regualr games.

as for is 7 too many, well firstly i would doubt Nyafi will get many games unless we get unlucky with injuries or he pushes someone out of the team in which case theres your fall guy number 1.

burton will stay and play a role but probably wont start every game and will again be rotated in with kedwell if we sign cody. if we dont then kedwell and burton may well be our first choice as it stands

I'd love to see Cody and Zola as first choice strikers with Keds and Deon as back up

Birchall should be shown the door, he has done nothing when given the opportunity. He runs around a lot but lacks the intelligence at league level to be a proven striker

7 that includes 2 players we haven't signed, a winger ( In MA eyes ) a player who had played 1 game and a player who has not scored a league goal . In my opinion we have two strikers that could do a job for us in league 1 keds and deon .

Kedwell and Burton are only good enough as back up strikers, new frontline required. Kedwell mustn't start every game!!!

All I would say is that Kedwell and burton score goals in BIG games

    Port vale away - burton
    Port vale home - kedwell
    Rotherham away - burton X2
    Rotherham home burton
    Wimbledon home kedwell and burton
    Torquay home kedwell

All these games were important and these two scored the goals

I hope Zola isn't true, we already have Kedwell and Burton for that style of football, another big man striker will just draw us into to playing hoof ball. Would be exactly the same if we signed Bayo. Mad Dog leave the big strikers alone!

We need another big striker! League 1 is hardly a league of great football and if we try and play two little quick strikers they will get kicked up in the air when we play the likes of Carlisle and Oldham. I am all for us playing good football but if we don't have a big striker like Zola we have no other option but to try and run past defences which won't work all the time. Sometimes you have to win ugly as we proved this year and having a big man will help us do that.

I don't agree, more football will be played in this division that you think. Like I said Kedwell and Burton can offer those strength options and both win a lot of headers, no more thanks.

It is the standard of the supply that is critical. I'm with Peg Leg on this.

Kedwell was very average for most of last season, only hit any form in the last 4/5 games. Some of you have very short memories.

I would be more than happy with a decent midfielder that can hit 16 goals in a season <whistle>
