Every media outlet has. The BBC has done it already too and so will half of the newspapers.

It's what journalists do. They find info and publicise it in news stories. This even happens if the original source of information is already in the public domain.

In all honestly, any journo which DIDN'T use Barton's Twitter comments for a story would be a bit of a mug.

Glad Barton came out and said this. Show's how big the gap between player's and owners is between deals

The player's agents are the only ones who matter

There's only one Joey Barton! I honestly believe a contract will be sorted out for him over the summer once Mike Ashley realises it will cost a lot more to get a replacement in that will be half as good as what Joey has been this season.

I actually don't think Barton's likely to leave.

I am sure that Ashley's plan was that he would not offer Barton a contract and would flog him to the best offer. The club may well have really agreed a deal with Everton for all I know.

I just don't think barton's going to go along with the plan. Look at from his point of view. He can either agree to the transfer, make Ashley some money and show he can be pushed around, or he can stay put, piss Ashley off, make himself a hero and pick up a huge signing on bonus as a free agent. Not that hard.

    Hmmm undecided at the moment!
I think if he'd have really wanted to stay he could have signed the contracts that were close with only the length stopping him signing
At least then he'd have had the next 2 years here!
I think it's his agent who wants a big pay day. I see no reason why we should give him four years because theres no guarantee that he'll be a top player at the age of 32/33 and with his past experiences (yes I know he's been better this year but he did hit pedersen) theres no guarantee he won't get in trouble

Joey Barton is an employee of NUFC and to publically slag n bitch about Ashley and LameArse in the hope of getting a new contract is either, very poor advice from his agent or shock horror the act of a player engineering his way out of the club with his reputation with the fans intact.

I don't quite follow the logic.

What exactly is the advantage to Barton of his leaving ?

He can play his last season on his current wages and pick up a wedge next season signing on as a free agent. Let's assume that he's happy to lie to us and we can't believe a word he says - - where is the up side to Barton of making Ashley some money on a transfer fee rather than picking it up himself next year ?

we're signing cabeye because Ashley expects to sell Barton. We'll just have to see if he manages it.

The fact is Cabaye is a little younger but is not as good at football.
