The imminent signing of Cabaye has got me thinking. I have taken it that he is primarily a CM. To me this is our strongest area of the team. I personally don't think Barton will leave, can't see Nolan going anywhere and Tiote will obviously start.

Just wondering where does Cabaye fit into this, I can't imagine he would leave a Champs League team for anything other than first team football.

I know a lot of you will drop Nolan but can you realistically see Pards dropping him?

So....what Midfield line up would you like to see? What Midfield line up is most likely (with the current players)

Unfortunately I reckon that might be that for Barton and Nolan has still yet to sign a new contract - its worrying!

    It worries me also.
I think this could be barton's cue. Although who would pay the wages he wants? Everton wouldn't.
I think you're right about him starting so here is my predicted set up.

    ----------Tiote----Cabeye------------
    HBA-----------Nolan------------Jonas
    ----------------Ba------------------

I honestly think Barton will stick to his word and stay.

I appreciate that Ashley & co may accept bids etc for him but think Barton will turn offers down (this is the sort of attitude I took with Carroll and was left devastated). Ever the optimist though!

Maybe, but as loyal as Barton might be, he's still a professional and by staying here and leaving on a free, after turning down lots of offers, perhaps he is cutting his nose off to spite his face a bit?

I don't really see how Barton is cutting off his nose to spite his face. Given that there's no transfer fee, free agents generally get significantly higher wages.

Even Owen and Cole, ****e beyond comparison, received huge wages under their last contracts, because the clubs didn't have to splash out on a transfer fee.

It would probably be to Barton's benefit to run down the last year of his contract - his wages as a free agent would almost certainly be higher.

Might be we're signing him as cover for all areas of midfield.

    And as bait for Gervinho...

What about the likes of Guthrie and Gosling? Cant see them getting anywhere near the first team now.

As for Cabaye, just to get a measure on his style of play, who is he most like that has played for us in the last 5 years. Emre?

The thinking behind the transfer is signing him for less than we sell enrique, hope he does well and then sell him for more money then we paid. FACT

So, Tiote, do you get a strange feeling down all the diodes in your left side? (Or am I just being a massive nerd here?)
