It was against Belgium tonight, both played 90 mins, they drew 1-1. Last game v Scotland on Wednesday.
That's two draws now isn't it? Didn't they draw all their matches in the last tournament too? Or was that the 18s? Anyone know less than me about this?
That might have been the U20 World Cup. This is just the final stage of qualifying anyway. Only the 7 group winners+hosts play the finals in Lithuania in July. All seems a bit strange to me. Source: Wikipedia
These youth internationals are even more pointless than the full internationals. Might have been the case 20 years ago of exposing youngsters to a different style of football & some foreign travel. But all that happens at their clubs now anyway. Does it make them better players or people playing youth internationals? I very much doubt it. The England U19 coach is Noel Blake, who with the greatest respect, if he was any good a coach, he'd have a job at a club.
In theory, it gives them a chance to play together. Would be great if players played at each age group and came through as a great side. However, only the best play at most age groups and they usually skip the u21s and go straight into the full side. And that is why we don't win U21 tournaments.
England beat Scotland 3-0 but Georgia beat Belgium 2-0 to take the only qualifying spot. So that's that for us.
They're a small nation, unlikely to have sustained success. This is their "golden generation" one feels, I'd even rank them as contenders for the world cup.
Def better than yhat dross that turned out for England yesterday, could not watch much as NCIS was much more entertaining
