I wouldn't put it past AVB and Levy, it would be a great signal of intent, but I couldn't imagine Levy spending anywhere near that for any one player. He'd have a heart attack afterwards. This however is precisely the kind of deal that would silence the bullshit around Bale, if Levy was to do one his 'magic' negotiations.
Thats pretty much what I said last week I think, if I were Bale, I'd say to Levy (and he's the only player that can get away with it!), right, lets see who YOU sign first before I do.
you wouldn't put it past Levy and AVB? Lockstock, if you can please let me know how we'd manage to even pay 1/2 of the £45 mill or his £200k wages, I'd love to know.
I couldn't remember who had said something similar. But yes, that's what I'd do in Bale's position. It would be only natural if he were ambitious, and would want to know that the club shares that ambition.
Lets say Bale is leaving, for purely hypothetical reasons. If we sell him before we've signed the real quality we need to strengthen us, we're ****ed. Potential targets would just see us as a club who do nothing but sell our best players and win nothing. It doesn't set a good example at all. Bale is the last one we have left who actually make us appealing. It doesn't matter how much money we get for him, we'll continue to make "sideways signings" as no one of top quality will choose us if they get an offer from a similar rival.
Those two clubs will be Chelsea and City imo, he only moved to Zenit recently for some ridiculous fee, so there's a long contract to buy off still...and an expensive one, and massive wages to match, well out of our league imo. I don't think his move was the best for his career and was purely money motivated, which puts me off such players I'm afraid.
I don't know what Bale will do but if he goes he goes and we move on as a team with AVB. Gossip is that Jose has signed a £40 mill contract with Chelsea. If it fails after 6 months or so I haven't a clue who will go to Chelsea. It's not a good idea to rehire as oft I have stated. Moyes to Utd. Pell to City. Jose to Chelsea. AVB at Spurs. Martinez at Everton. BR at Pool and Arsewipe at Arsewipe. Interesting bunch of coaches imo and I feel that our young amigo will be ok.
Quite right Roo, and I'm fully behind Bale's stance here. Us fans have thought that previous TW's would make or break us, but imo, this is the one, the most important for years.
Latest odds on Skybet show Bale as 4/11 to still be a Spurs player next season. But, Suarez has been backed down to 4/7 to be at Real!..
I completely agree. Levy can't hide any longer. he's been found out and so many fans have started to realise. (from the comments in various reports i'm reading.) - They are having a dig in their own little way. I hadn't thought that bale might be thinking like this. I really hope he is. It'll give levy a kick up the backside. I have a funny feeling that Liverpool might well be up there with us trying to cause an upset next season.
I knew you weren't serious mate, I was just adding even if we could afford him, I don't like these contract-mongers drifting from well backed club to well backed club...whores all of em!
My point is, we wouldn't. Levy would negotiate. AVB would persuade. The fact that there is a strong link despite the fact that we know how expensive he is, suggests to me that there would have to be some strong negotiation happening.
Hulk's wages COULD be covered with money from potential outgoings (Ade - £100k, Bentley £50k, Gallas £50k, Gomes £40k) but it'll be the small matter of a £40m transfer fee which would prove a stumbling block.
Said the same to some workmates a couple of weeks back. They play some good stuff and have been unlucky a few times IMO. They're a bit like us with 1 stand out player. I think Bale > Suarez and our squad (currently) is better though. I wouldn't be surprised to get to march next year with 4-6 teams still in with a shot
