Can't see what you guys are unhappy about with that team tbh. Keeper looks ok. Coleman is excellent. Macarthy and McReady are good. Long is good up front. Look a decent side to me.
evening lads. Lampard is a really good player, been good tonight, great running, always gives the ball quickly and cleanly. ireland well organised as you expect under Trap. Has Rooney lost half a yard of pace? How many of the England team aren"t regular starters for their clubs? But at least we are trying to pass on the ground tonight. Just looked up the England squads from Euro 96 and Italia 90. The starting 11s were fantastic, the squads were a bit thin (though in 96 Shearer and Sheringham started up front and Les and Fowler were in the squad....how I wish we had just one of these available to us now). But both make the current bunch look very mediocre.
Irish players will always give 100% when they put on an Irish jersey col. It comes from our own national games (GAA). Your thought from a very early age about love for the jersey, you can see it in a lot of Irish players in the Prem. Some may not be the most talented but they make very good careers from working hard and being honest. The problem with this team is not the players it's the manager. He strangles the life out of them. We are playing to a very rigid system that's pretty mundane. When you have very average players playing to a rigid system it becomes very sterile. We are capable of playing better but not under Trapp.
I think hes getting the best out of them, you could have a team like Stoke (Ireland) who are dull but do the job or a team like Wigan (England) who try to play football that arent very good. Just be thankful they arent a team who play like Stoke and arent very good. (QPR)
O'Leary would only work if he could buy international players. A spent force. Keane is a Dumpty and Coyle still has plenty to offer at Prem of Champ level. Several of our better players over the last two decades have not gone into management. Would love to see Trapp gone but not sure who would be available to replace him. Watch out for Coleman in the coming years. He's a great bit of stuff
I think hes getting the best out of them, Can't agree with you here flyer. I don't think he's getting anywhere near shat he should be out of them. Don't get me wrong. We're no world beaters but we have several very good young players in Coleman, McClean and McCarthy. Trapp didn't even bring two of these to the Euros. He won't allow creativity. There was talk of a coup in the dressing room a few years ago on that ill fated night in Paris when the players demanded that Trapp take off the shackles. The result was amazing and we played fantastic football and actually passed France off the pitch. They haven't being allowed to do it since. Would love to see him gone.
You have what is basically a NPC team (maybe even some L1 standard players) holding a supposedly superior team in their own ground. Its like us having a moan if we are drawing at one of the manchester clubs.
Yet another 1-1 draw between these two countries!! Pretty tepid, end of season stuff imo. All England in the 2nd half, but Ireland battled well!! Ox should have scored and was pretty disappointing imo.
There could be a resurgence in Irish football in terms of young talent coming through but it will not manifest itself until Trapp is gone. There are also too many journeymen midfielders in the starting line up tonight that need too much time to think and cannot find a killer ball and the counter attack will break down every time. Solid defensively tonight but lack the creativity in front of them to bring the likes of Long and Keane in to the game.
4-4-****ing-2 yet again. We will never look like a decent International side with that out-dated formation. We need Wilshire back in, playing in the middle of a 3 behind Rooney. Then we may look half decent.
