It is the silly season and there is not a lot of Saints related football to discuss.

Reading In Search of Schrodinger's Cat by John Gribbin. Not watching a great deal although I did watch The Battle of the River Plate earlier after giving up on sleep. Listening to my usual miscellany although I got through a lot of The Clash, Johnny Cash and Led Zep yesterday. Going on holiday? As if. Passing the time... In my experience time passes whatever you do and whether you like it or not.

I'm at work. I am very impressed with some of the musical tastes on here though, especially Workingman's Dead from Archers Road. I will have to give the latest Neil Young a listen too.

Reading-wise, when TSS mentioned Hornblower a few weeks ago it nudged me so I downloaded them all on to my Kindle and got through them in about 3 weeks (I do read pretty fast). Now that's done I am re-reading all the Game of Thrones books to remind myself what's coming next on the TV show. After that it'll be the Great Gatsby having just seen the film, which I thought was very well done. I also recently watched the Jack Reacher movie on DVD, to see if Tom Cruise could possibly suspend my disbelief, and I have to say he did OK. I've read all the books and obviously my mental image of Reacher isn't anything like Tom Cruise, but hey ho.

I've seen them live, they were good but a little underwhelming. Their sound isn't suited to live performances I don't think.

That's odd I tend to find bands with big brass sections fantastic live performers. I still rate Madness as the best band I've ever seen live purely down to the brass.

Haha I loved seeing Madness live but that was more down to how fun it was than anything else. Zach's voice was a bit drowned out, that was the main problem.

Ah right fair enough now that you mention it he does seem like he'd have too quiet a voice on him.

    What are you reading?
Until exams are over, revision notes. Plan on reading Fight Club & One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest this summer though cos the films are great. Maybe a bit of Nietzsche too.

    What are you watching?
Britain's Got Talent & Waterloo Road

    What are you listening to?
Just discovered Evanescence, also loving Van Morrison and Journey at the moment

Where are you going on holiday?
Ibiza & Newquay with mates, and Aruba (Caribbean island) with family. It's a long break before uni, I need something to do!

How are you passing the time?
My life currently consists of no more than revising, the gym, and seeing mates in the evenings.

Got my hands full looking after my son who us nearly 11 months, and I'm on half term so obliged to help out! It's actually great fun.

Reading a book called Shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, but on and off. Also reading a bit of Jung!

Just watched a french film called Rust and Bone, very good, with the gorgeous Marion Cotillard. Also watched the Descendants recently with Clooney, that wasn't bad either. Also watching a bit of Spring watch.

Going to France in August. The Dordogne, never been there so looking forward to that. Might take the float rod?

Oh yeh, I've listening to some old ska/reggae such as Delroy wilson, Gregory Isaacs, Desmond Dekkers etc. Its the first thing thats got my boy wiggling his hips, very funny.

By all means read One flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, its excellent, but give his (Ken Casey) other book a go, Sometimes a Great Notion. Starts a little slow, but its epic, I loved it.

Really? I watched that on the plane week before last ... why or why did they go with Cruise. Too short, too pretty and way too smarmy with his grin. Reacher is 6'5", built like a brick out house and the quiet deadly type. They got that so wrong in my eyes.

They were wrong to go for Cruise, but having said that, who would you cast? The only person of the right stature I can think of would be Chris Hemsworth, but no way could he act the part. At least Cruise can act a bit. If you forget it was a Jack Reacher book it's an OK film. My wife hasn't read the books and she thought it was 'OK'.

Hmn. Baz Luhrman certainly leaves his signature on the movie. But then, so does Fitzgerald. Plenty of his splendid sentences throughout the narration, and I think the movie is very true to the spirit of the book. I loved it, but I can see how some purists might be offended or put off.

Did you like Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet? If not, expect to be disappointed by this film. But if you thought, like me, that moving the tale of the Montagus and Capulets to C20 LA revitalised a timeless story without in any way subtracting from the majesty and wit of Shakespeare's language, then go and see The Great Gatsby and expect something a bit special.

Although the book's always better than the film anyway.

    Non actor - Lawrence Dallaglio
Actor - Clint Eastwood if it was 30 years ago; today, unsure, but Cruise just isn't Reacher.

Great easy reading books though. I think I'm one behind at the moment.
