Recently watched him against Chelsea and he was superb. Still has a lot to offer, the bench warming tag can be deceiving. He's 32, but he is no slouch, he can still get around the pitch at a decent pace. What he has over Skrtel is that he's very much a ball playing CB, comfortable on it and can pick out a pass. He does have experience, which is only good if you have the ability to play at a good level - which he does. Very shrewd signing, has played and trained with some of the top attackers in world football. Henry, Bergkamp, Aguero, Tevez, Van Persie etc. Very happy with this signing and nice to see it done early.

Think it's a good signing. He's not really played much for City this year but then neither has Lescott and the year before him and Kompany were awesome so wouldn't read too much into that.

Obviously not the player he was 4 or 5 years ago but still good enough to compete and as a 3rd or 4th choice CB he'd a prety good option to have. He's got a bit of pace about him and also experience of the Premiership so will take little time to adjust. He may not be the biggest but does offer a lot in the air and is very strong so would go some way to help solve the issue we've had at defending crosses.

Delighted with this capture, he has a winning mentality and he's a talker, he'll organize our defense nicely, wouldn't be surprised to see him take the role of second vice captain behind Agger (If he gets it).

And on his wages, surely at 32 he's taken a pay cut? Maybe around 50k?

A decent signing lads, always rated him. To get him on a free is good business again from Rodgers, even IF his wages are quit steep. <ok>

Agreed <ok> No signing is ever guaranteed to work but I can see the sense in this one. Good player, tons of Prem experience (at the top end too), not breaking the bank. Who else could we have got on a free with a record like his?

Looks like it's all agreed now, the "in principal" nonsense seems to have gone.
