Fernando Derveld would have to creep in there. Some of 04-05 season signings were poor Jonson and the mighty Simom Charlton the gnome sized centre back who looked about 50 years old.
Good idea JK, mine is fairly limited and is sort of from the last 10-12 years as that's all I remember. Theoklitos Velasco Stefanovic Doherty Wiggins Jonsson Brellier Fotheringham Pattison Sibierski Koroma That's mine, Jurgen Colin nearly got in at rightback.
I'm glad someone has the sense to stick Doherty in there, I don't think we've ever had a player cause us more damage over such a prolonged period of time.
Doherty did have some good games though. I remember us playing Leeds and he kept Jemaine Beckford quiet, also he did have a few MOM performances, I think there are far worse than him.
The amount of times his mistakes led to a goal though is another story all together. He chipped in with goals and had the odd game he played well, he had a knack for keeping underneath the radar.
Surprised Robert Rosario hasn't been mentioned yet. For a prolonged stay at the club he was truely awful.
I remember Big Bob always used to think he was South American when in reality he was from a place like Penge. Darren Beckford was another shocking forward.
I think it was big Rosy for me - (though forever remembered for that wonder strike vs Southampton in that 4-4 thriller - never been so gobsmacked in my life, nor the rest of the crowd: as the ball nestled in the top corner before mayhem ensued "Rosy is back etc")
If you were around in the 50's and saw Charlie Billington or Cameron Buchanan you would realise that compared to them the other players mentioned on this thread were relative football geniuses.
Ade Akinbiye rates high in this category. 49 games, 3 goals for us, but he was still bought for over £5m by Leicester at one point in his career. why?
Good old Ade, im sure he scored a late leveller at Grimsby away and we invaded the pitch and i was swinging on the cross bar!Good times.
Dean Coney has to be up there. Anyone remember Ulf Ottosen? Looked like a smaller Hulk Hogan. John Hartson was hardly on top of his game when her was here. Same might be said for Jan Molby or Tony Cottee and obviously there was the Theoclitarus debarcle already mentioned.
You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who competes with Theoklitos in terms of one off memorable nightmare within the history of British football. One game played, 7 goals conceded, end of career.
You can separate them into era's really, there were certain managers who committed what I regard as war crimes against this club with their signings and loans. Hamilton, Worthington, Grant, Gunn are all guilty of signing some truly horrendous players, also what is the one thing all these managers have in common? This is in regards to who ultimately should of supervised the managers and budgets properly at the time.
steve walsh was appalling by the time he arrived here. How about: Andy Hughes, Goran Maric, Rossi Jarvis, Paul Dalglish, Trevor Benjamin, Leijer (can't even remember his first name), Brian McGovern, Chris Killen, but no, Fotheringham was the worst
Please I started this thread help me out my misery - I cannot be the only one who remembers how awful Spearing was!
