Commentators trying to persuade us before during and after that it was an exciting race. Nay it was as ****e as they come. Indeed ****er than normal for the fact that even with the entire procession in tyre preservation mode, getting an overtake was still so hard come by TV producers saw fit to replay the same one or two overtakes til the cows came home. Monaco is crap. It invariably fails to live up to its billing.

Monaco is only good if it rains like 1996,1997 and 2008.

What I don't understand though, especially when overtakes are at a premium, why the directors insist on concentration on the top 5 or so drivers. Raikkonen's charge at the end was completely ignored at the time, and I've no idea if the Caterhams, Marussia's or Williams tried anything, we just don't get to see it.

Yeah, instead of following Rosberg pointlessly around the final lap they should have realised that Hulkenberg/Bottas/Raikkonen were all within a second of each other battling for the final point. I'm surprised the commentators did not pick up on it either as on the final lap the timing at the bottom showed how close they were yet Edwards was still going on about how Raikkonen was in 14th.

I've only recently seen the TV coverage and must agree with you, DHC.

I am fast concluding that it should be part of the requirement of any TV director taking charge of F1 coverage to be, or to have been a pretty decent driver! OK, I know this is highly unlikely idealism, but if it could be done, it would surely be an improvement!

I should add that according to my memory Monaco repeatedly comes near the bottom (along with events held in Spain) of 'best coverage of the year'; but confess that I do not know whether there is a common link with, for instance, the same director over many years; or indeed, the same director taking command of Monaco, Spanish, or other events.

Whatever the reason, the TV director of this event once again failed to impress me.

I don't know if they need to be a driver, but a fan of the sport would at least help. I'm sure given the opportunity to direct, most of us would prioritise an overtaking manoeuvre over pointlessly watching the leader, no matter which drivers were involved. I guess the sponsors of the lead cars must be kept happy by having their logos on screen as much as possible though.

Sky TV's piece on Bernies yacht was just awful.

Yes; I'm sure most fans would do a good job. Of course, it's always the case that the winner should be shown approaching and crossing the finish line but it is a shame that such a 'lack of action' is often prioritised above what viewers are far more interested in. Even bearing this in mind, it seems unnecessary to show virtually the whole of the leader's last lap when he is doing nothing but tootling around, especially when real action is going on behind!

I've only watched the race footage, BCS.

Long ago, I made my feelings about Sky well known to the readers of British fora. The sooner they get out of the business of exploitation, the better for everyone else.

In a sense, viewers who choose Sky have only themselves to blame because they are keeping it going! There is a solution but,
as Murdoch knows only too well, it is a bitter pill to swallow: anyone with the slightest concern should make a personal sacrifice and stop watching Sky. Then we can all get back to normal…
