I always knew that you had a privileged upbringing. Around our way it was more Superdrug deodorant than Lynx.

    2.10 Redcar

    Nelson's Pride 8/1

Kevin Ryan has clearly targeted this race having saddled winning newcomers in 2006, 2011 and 2012 and having got off the mark with a debutant winner at the weekend and with Nelson's Pride a likely type on paper I think this filly has a great chance in landing this race for the Ryan team for the 3rd successive year. This early February foal has a likely pedigree by Mount Nelson out of the Group placed (at 2) Bandanna and Nelson's Pride is a half sister to 4 useful horses. Her half siblings include Markazzi who reached a peak rating of 93, Art Sale who was rated 97 when retired as a 2 year old, Rowayton who made a winning debut at Redcar and Mandys Hero who was a decent enough dual 5f winner so there is a lot to like about this filly on paper. Additionally, this £22,000 purchase has a lot of decent entries including the Wetherby's Super Sprint, DBS Premier Yearling Stakes and 2 Year Old Trophy at Redcar and has obviously shown quite a bit at home so far. The trainer's daughter Amy takes the ride and Kevin Ryan getting off the board with his 2 year olds the other day I fully expect Nelson's Pride to know her job in a race that the yard have successfully targeted in the past. Of those with experience, current favourite Kirtling Belle sets an ok standard but I'd personally think that this will go to a newcomer and I have no reason to feel why that won't be Nelson's Pride. Her price tag of 8/1 is a lot bigger than I was expecting and hopefully she can do herself justice and win this for the yard for the 3rd consecutive season.

Didn't realise Mr Waley-Cohen had bought Anquetta. Pops the lad up top and he scoots in again.

Probably come in too late for this unusual topic of the day but i'll add my 2p worth. When I was in my teens it was Old Spice but then I moved on to Brut talc and aftershave balm (don't see that these days - great pulling power). The best deodorant I ever came across was a roll on by Linden Vos (following a bath/shower of course). They seemed to go under but I have a theory that maybe they were taken over by Mum because their unperfumed white roll on is as close to Linden Vos as one could get.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

PS. Is the Derby not being televised this year on terrestrial TV?

Great to see Ed Walker get a really nicely bred horse in the shape of 4.30 Leicester Veya 25/1. This son of Giant's Causeway is a half brother to a number of decent winners including Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Bachelor Duke and was picked up for €160,000 back in October. Has an early entry in next years Derby and will clearly need further than 6f in time and although he'll be doing well to win on debut in a sprint I've had a small bet on him today. Definitely a horse I expect to see run with promise.

You've got to think that race at Leicester is going to prove very, very useful. The Walker horse was shaping encouragingly before meeting interference and being eased right off.

I used Lynx Jasmine as a student and it was cheap enough, just like the ladies it used to attract and just like thr guy wearing it according to them...Nass is just careful with the old cash...<whistle>..coal tar soap and cold water man...

The second at Punchestown tomorrow looks a cracker for this time of year.

    Well done Toppy.
