He reportedly wanted the job mate. He visited Goodison & Finch Farm at the turn of the year & his agent contacted Kenwright over a week ago saying he was interested. He reportedly had an interview in London last week. He's out of contract at Porto this summer & interestingly has put off an announcement over his future until after today! Sounds like Martinez was Kenwrights first choice though.
Laudrup says he has turned down jobs to stay at Swansea. 1 may well be Everton. I can see Laudrup at Arsenal in a year or two.
mmmm, what was in it for Martinez to fly half way around the globe to take part in this 'set up' then mate? You had discussions with him, he reportedly didn't like the idea of not having total control & you therefore moved on. The 'no job offer' was merely semantics imo, as if he'd have agreed to what was being put forward you'd have made him one.
Of course the management were interested in, sounded out and held talks with Martinez for the Liverpool job. But we didn't offer him the job. It is very simple.
You don't know that. What he reportedly didn't like is of no meaning. He didn't turn us down, we didn't offer him anything.
That's the kind of comment people in my year 9 class used to make back when I was in high school to try and have the 'last word' on a discussion/argument I appreciate the kiss though x
Oh come on mate, there was no point in discussing it further with you, as you were obviously dead set on believing what you wanted to believe. All I'll add, is that I can't remember ever seeing an PL Chairman having a stroll in the close season with a man who he didn't want to employ like......
Very much like yourself then Simply put though, no offer was made to Martinez. That much is known. Of course we were interested, but our interest never stretched to offering him the job. That's not believing, that's going from facts. I can't tell you why we didn't offer it to him, perhaps he didn't agree to working under a DoF as you say (but then why would we go full circle and offer BR the job with no DoF above him?) and had demands we weren't prepared to accept, or perhaps it was somewhere in the middle and it wasn't acceptable to either side. Who knows.
big bird... henry is not lfc chairman... so.... semantics maybe but lets get back to the real article base. Martinez maybe to Everton. Do the players fit his style, will he get money or sell to buy. will that suit him just fine? it should be very interesting to see what happens. Theres a better base than he ever built at Wigan but it's very much of a type. I think coleman and baines will suit him very nicely and so will peinaar and jelavic but i don't think your midfield is what he wants so perhaps it'll be a return to the days of an arteta like figure rather than an arm flailing curly topped thugs... all in all i can see him just doing a few tweaks to the everton squad then complaining about how small it is. I thin kthe first 11 is settled and he won't change it bar felliani unless forced but how can he do much more than moyes ahas done with it?
Fellaini is going, so he'll have £25M to spend on a new midfield, plus whatever was in the kitty anyway. We were 'a Benteke' away from a CL place last season imo. The side were very tough to beat, but we didn't scored enough goals. Jelavic looked a shadow of the player we saw from the Jan of the previous season & despite playing some great stuff & creating bagfulls of chances, we ended up drawing far to many games. Martinez would do well do not change much at all, we don't need revolution, as we're not replacing a manager who was sacked for failing, we just need someone to come in & develop on what we've already got.
