OK, before I start, this isn't meant to be racist, but do we really believe Daniel Levy has any interest in hanging on to Gareth Bale? Bearing in mind Levy is a Jewish businessman, who puts profits before the league position of Spurs, I am pretty sure his present attitude of "Not for sale at any price" is the Levy way of saying he is for sale, but I want the maximum amount possible.

My reason? Levy pulled the same stunt with Carrick and Berbatov, hanging on until deadline day so that Spurs could trouser the maximum amount of profit, and then leaving Spurs in the lurch for the start of the season with having plenty of cash, but with the transfer deadline closed, there is no one available to sign as a replacement.

So, with the new season approaching, will the Spurs fans fall for the same old sob story, and Bale will be off to pastures new, preferably Old Trafford?

    your thoughts welcomed

Funnier things have happend, and it's not as if there is no track history with Levy. And I've said for ages I can't see Bale playing abroad especially at this age, maybe near his thirties but now. Still to much to prove in the PL.

Levy knows getting a champions league place will net him more money, and they won't get that without Bale, but they're very close. With Berbatov and Carrick they were never making a serious push for 4th, so they as individuals weren't as crucial to their future plans. Bale has the potential to lift Spurs into the upper tiers of European clubs, and that'll be worth much more money than selling Bale off.

Fair assessment<ok> Though if someone offers £50m for Bale Levy will snatch their hand off no doubt. A fair bit depends on what Bale actually wants to do himself, can't see him going to Spain just yet, I would have thought Man U would be the desired destination for Bale but his price tag is surely a bone of contention in that context. Are United willing to shell out that kind of money on one player atm?

Not sure why you need to add the Jewish tag - he's just a businessman who puts profits first full stop. The Glazers, FSG, Kronke etc are all the same and none of them are Jewish AFAIK.

He didn't pull any 'stunt' with Carrick - Carrick moved to us in July 2006 which gave Spurs a month to bring in replacements. As for Berb, that was just the same as any club trying to keep a player who wants to leave and looking to drive the price up as far as possible. Same thing happened with Ronaldo, Torres, Carroll, Fabregas and so on.

I think it'll be the same deal at Spurs. They'll want to keep him and will do their best to hold on to him, but if he wants to leave then there's a limit to what they can do to keep him. All they can do is set a price and if a club meets that price and Bale wants to leave they will almost certainly end up selling. Not being in the CL has definitely weakened their position in that regard, but ultimately it will be down to Bale to decide if he wants to force a move or not.

Maybe not a few years ago, but I think we're moving that way now. We spent £24 million on a 29 year old who may only have three or four seasons left and no resale value, so doubling that for a player who has up to ten seasons left and could be resold for a higher sum at any point in the next few years isn't out of the question.

Ultimately I think it will depend on what Moyes wants. We've spent around £50 million the last couple of summers so I'd expect we'd spend at least that much this year, possibly more if Moyes wants to sell a few players as well. So it's a question of whether he wants to splash the vast majority of that on one player, or spread it around to bring in two or three good players instead.

You couldn't afford him. It's only Chelsea and City who can spend money according to you lot.

It would be a wee nit hypocritical alright <whistle>

Can't see Moyes spending wads of cash the minute he's in the door, am sure he has players he would love to have bought at Everton on his mind but never had the cash obviously, now he does.

and UTD are the only team who can afford him, unless you want to fail FFP

I'd rather have Bale than ronnie back. No guarantee ronnie will do well long term. Would rather have memory of making him into the player he became and get bale long term. .

If we get bale Nd fellani this summer I'm happy.

Think he will stay with Spurs for another season and them move if they fail to finish top 4 and he has a £50 mill release clause so there should be some battle to sign him, this summer yeah Ronaldo back would be a dream signing and SAF did say there would be a "major signing" so hopefully Moyes feels the same, but Id be happy with Zaha returning and any 2 out of Modric, Fabregas an Fellaini.

What if we got both Ronnie and Bale?

  14. Bale signed a new contract not too long ago didn't he? Tottenham are under no pressure to sell him and he won't force through a move IMO (he has plenty of time left in his career yet) so why would they sell for less than they value him at? If they think he is worth £50m then they should ask for that and not sell him for a penny less!

It is the same for us with Suarez and I'm sure you guys wouldn't want to see Rooney go on the cheap either.

Stop talking through your arse nof, trophies won by spending money, only since united have been out financed did it become an issue but of course that doesnt figure, it was fine for united to pay record fees until other teams did it, pathetic

Please highlight the period in our history where we went on a City or Chelsea esque spending spree, funded by a sugar daddy, to get us to the level of title challengers. Should be easy for you being an avid United watcher and aficionado.

The fact is that you were able to buy playe s that others couldn't afford. Now the boot is on the other foot, it's become an issue.

The difference is that United have earnt their money, whereas City and Chelsea have just won the lottery.
