I don't know how you can say that, Cest. He did okay at Swindon and has largely had his hands tied so far at Sunderland. Give the fella a chance. Clough had only managed at Hartlepool before he went to Derby and I for one am optimistic about his chances.

It is my view that we have had the tried and tested without success, so why not give a young ambitious manager like Di Canio a chance..

Don`t see talks having anything to do with whether PDC goes or stays. More likely to be about future plans and about how much he`s given to spend.

My thoughts too. I was gutted when MON failed to deliver. If Paolo can replicate what he achieved at STFC with us, we are on to a winner ;)

Yeah this is my opinion aswell.

I'm sick of the same old names banded about whenever a job comes up, Hughes, Curbishley, Mclaren etc etc

Next season with Di Canio is going to be a bumpy ride, anyone expecting otherwise (easy ride, top ten finish) hasn't got their head screwed on right and is in for a disappointment. We shouldnt be in the same relegation scrap as this season, but we will be safe with 3-5 games to go not 10.

I reckon he has the ability, but he will be on a learning curve as he adjusts to top flight management.

Think we are all thinking the same way mate as long as we can avoid the dogfight with a few games to go then build on that for next season. Think it'll be 2/3 seasons before we can get regular top ten finishes.

Thats an improvement on this year, and so for me, I will be happy. So long as the team show passion, even when losing - then i'll be happ(y)ier than the abject performances from this year. Rome wasn't built in a day, and im not expecting us to challenge for a Europa league spot. So long as we're not cheering on Arsenal in the penultimate game of season so we dont get relegated, I'll be happy.

most people on here are sensible (ish ;) ) but there will be those who demand PDC's head if we dont finish in the top ten and safe by Jan....

That would be the first hurdle and a sense of relief for all of us that we`re heading in the right direction.
Hope he doesn`t try to do too much too quickly though or it could come unstuck. Geordie Root tried that and it didn`t work. The worry is that if he gets rid of half the squad they have to be replaced plus the extras he was on about before.
Could be a lot of new faces and it`s a big ask.

Wrong. I have already stated that I think we'd have gone down if we had stuck with MoN. PDC was enough of a fresh breeze to turn it round....just.

My feelings are he is far too volatile and shoots from the hip without much thought or planning. His recent outburst may have made a few on here hand out the back slapping but it was a red light in my book as to how I don't think he can handle the bigger league and the different dynamics involved at this level. These players are not £400 a week glad to have a job brigade and whether we all think they deserve a kick up the arse, the fact remains we wont be shipping 10 out and 10 in this summer. Some of those lads may well be called upon next season to fill in for injuries and suspensions (we had 3 sendings of in his 8 games don't forget) and I think PDC's rash outburst may well come back and bite him.

It was a great bit of fan banter and we all said well done but it was also a lousy piece of man management to have aired our dirty linen in such a public fashion. I agree about having a new young hungry manager and giving them a chance but Poyet is far classier and Laudrup a magnificent calming figure and man manager.

Hope I'm wrong but I fear I wont be. I don't see much improvement next season at all and fear another bottom half struggle. MoN has gone and things move on. I'm very happy with that but its the selection of his replacement that has me most concerned.

I'm still on the fence about him tacticly. Mostly because he's unproven at this level. But I still think we have a right to know the reasons for such a bad season. And I believe he gave us our dues by being brutally honest. PB and MK went public when they let their little exploits get photographed. Paolo had to say something when questioned and it was a good opportunity to make an example of trouble makers within our squad. Paolo is not talking to the press naming names or singled anyone out. True he talks too much but he's passionate and looks like he gives a ****. If his big mouth is a bi-product of success then I'm happy with it. It's his tactical ability that worries me as we're all walking blind with that one.

    Bitter, sweet...

Mon was a disaster for the club, idolised by a many, but still a massive failure, proven.

PDC is a gobshite, a nutter, a ****ing fruitcake, but infectious as ****...

Charisma by the boat load, something the last dinosaur had non of.

He'll live or die by his own sword.

The only players he called out (named publicly) were Bards and Killa, who made the entire thing public themselves by posting pics on Twitter. CB and RB are 2 positions where we should be able to find replacements quite easily if needs be (and we probably will).
Not sure who else would cause a problem if PDC needed to call on them next season?

AJ has publicly back PDC since, O'Shea apparently has no issues with it and N'Daiye has said that for him such discipline is normal, saying only a couple of British players "might" be surprised by it. If we bring in foreign players, I don't think we will see any issues between Di Canio and players on this.

Di Canio has no premier league experience before this, but he seems, to me, to have the right ideas and be a good tactician. As I said above, I expect next season to be bumpy as Canio gets the experience he needs. It might not even work out at all, but if it doesnt it wont be because of his discipline approach.

Its nothing to do with the last 'dinosaur' as you put it. Its about SAFC's future. MoN had to go and I have no problem with that (although I feel it is a desperate shame it didn't work out for him here) and although PDC galvanised a sorry bunch to crawl over the line, I said at the time he was appointed I had grave concerns. His touchline celebrations are the stuff of real legend and his passion and commitment to the job are unquestionably wholehearted. However, I would bet that if any of us had the job we'd show exactly the same qualities too but would that make us a good choice for the job and would we be any good at it?

My hope is we progress with a very charismatic manager and thats my heart talking. My head says we are in as much of a pan ****e with PDC as we were with MoN or Bruce in the end. I just cant see his management by media style having any long term positive results for SAFC in the next 2 years. I will be surprised if he lasts until Christmas before the murmurings of discontent resurface once again amongst fans.

Just my gut instinct lads so don't shoot me for being honest.

See what you are saying Cest but, his outbursts for me anyway are warranted. We have a bunch of players who just strolled through games for two managers ending in both their sackings and, were happy to pick up a sizeable pay packet.
SAFC have needed someone to shoot from the hip for years now mate PDC is that manager. Whether he succeeds or fails is debatable but, if the powers that be give in to the players we will never amount to anything in the PL and we will struggle to attract managers as they will see that player power rules.
It's a case of wait and see for me hopefully it works out.

Talc, I have no problem that PDC is keen to introduce more discipline and want to bollock a set of ****ers that finished 4th bottom of a pretty poor league but its how he is doing it that is worrying me. Why does he feel the need to air every decision and every put down to the media. He loves to hold court and seems to think that by slagging everyone off associated with the club (players, ex managers etc) and issuing dictat via SSN is how EPL managers behave? It isn't and no other manager feels the need to do it.

I am afraid that he will give good headlines to the media but wont advance SAFC on bit. I notice we are linked with yet another lower league player today after the young kid from Altrincham joined last week?

I hope this isn't the 'big' move forward he has in mind for us, filling the team with 3rd and 4th division players? My concern is he hasnt got any ideas about top players but a diary full of lower league ones he hopes can make the step up?

    Worried? Very.
