    Congratulations to the Posh.

Onto less cheery news, FIFA ethics committee decision is in.

Sepp Blatter has no further case to answer, is free to go about his work as usual, will not be further investigated, and the election will take place on schedule provided that 75% of voters express satisfaction at it going ahead. Bin Hammam and Jack Warner are provisionally suspended from all football activities, as are their deputies, until a full investigation can be carried out.

If at least three of England, Spain, Germany and Italy took the lead, the world would follow. The commercial side of global football is entirely at the mercy of those four countries.

Just heard (this isn't hearsay, I'm listening to the press conference and the FIFA Secretary General said this) that 75% of the 208 FIFA members have to agree to cancel the election.

In other words, provided 53 countries want Blatter, we've got Blatter for another four years.

I'm not suggesting that the Aussies be marginalised (and I certainly wouldn't advocate putting the Italians at the centre of running a sport, their football authorities are as bad as FIFA). I'm just saying that for a break-away to be a remote possibility, those are the countries that would need to be on board.

Well it makes no difference as there is no election left as the other guy pulled out - and nominations had to be in by April 1st so there can be no challenge to him now.

When we were in the running for the World Cup bid, I did have something more than a glimmer of hope. Despite having a pretty good idea of how FIFA works (in Alan Green's words, what Blatter wants, Blatter gets) I clung onto until the very end.

Nonetheless, I cast my mind back six or seven months, to the time I was asked what I thought of England's World Cup chances. My reply was that England's best chance was a swine flu outbreak in Switzerland.

I would say the same thing about the chances of Blatter being FIFA president for anything less than four years.

Yes - unless someone could come up with criminal charges against him

The problem with that is juristiction. White collar convictions are practically unheard of in Switzerland. If charges were to come from any other country, it would need to be proven that somewhere other than Switzerland has juristiction over the proceedings.

Of course, while FIFA as a whole is a cancerous organisation, and FIFA evolves around Sepp Blatter, I am not suggesting for a second that Sepp Blatter has ever committed a criminal offence in any country.

FIFA is a joke. Blatter is having the last laugh, and it's really not at all funny.

How can FIFA have made a thorough investigation in the time available, and now 3/4 of them want to abandon the vote letting Sepp Blatter in for another four years. The corruption is unstoppable.

FIFA are a law unto themselves. We will never got a full investigation cos no one there want it known publicly that there is corruption or even the possiblity of it. They are constantly making stupid decisions which are harming the game under the guise of fairness and equality from grass roots to the world stage. They are a buch of old men who need a serious wake up call. Football needs technology in some way shape or form and they need a full review of their decisions and actions.
