Don't know much about this lad....

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...er-list-potential-summer-striker-targets.html

Newcastle have made enquiries about signing Portugal striker Eder.
The 25-year-old is valued at £16million by his club Sporting Braga, though Mike Ashley would hope to come to an agreement whereby £8m was paid, plus add-ons.
Alan Pardew is desperate for a striker to fill the hole left by Demba Ba's departure in January and are working through a list of targets.

St Etienne's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vitesse Arnhem's Wilfried Bony and Ajax's Siem de Jong are all in their sights but are also being courted by clubs in the Champions League.
West Ham, Tottenham and Arsenal have also watched 6ft 2ins Eder over the past two seasons but his value has soared after he impressed in the Champions league against the likes of Manchester United.

We have no chance of signing a good striker because we don't have the owner prepared to pay the extra cash required.

We will end up signing a couple of ok players and lets be honest any striker will do just fine given we will be trying to stay up next year rather than being top half like some people seem to think.

I think we need domestic players but I do like Eder.

There is a thread for these also.

As I've said fella, we've tried a single thread for the last two seasons (the last one I think I put up) and it barely got used. People seemed to prefer single threads per rumour, I suppose to avoid conversations getting mixed up.
Plus as we have a quiet period now on the board new threads will be scarce anyway.

I trust Carr to pick the right type of player for us, he's barely let us down thus far.

    No probs.

Anyways, Eder would be a good buy but like I said we need more character which is something almost exclusive to domestic players.

I find it staggering that we are looking abroad all the time - we need British players to claw back some of our identity.

For **** sake, West Ham are going to get a steal with £15m for Andy Carroll.

How is it, that all the figures touted about for the play-off final being in the region of £120m etc, and we are looking for 2nd rate Europeans?

    <doh>

Signing a few British players would feel... Wholesome. I think people are overplaying the importance a bit though. If a player is good enough we should be taking a look, regardless of nationality. When we actually went down we had plenty off British players in the squad. Nolan, Barton, Guthrie, Harper, Smith, Butt, Owen, Raylor, Saylor, Carroll, Duff. Their grit/domestic knowhow/whatever didn't keep us up or have us playing good football. 'Character' isn't a guarantee even when buying British. I'd be very happy with some promising domestic signings - Ince, Rhodes etc. I'd also be very happy with some more quality foreigners - Aubameyang, Bony, Siem De Jong etc. Quality above nationality for me.

It's pretty clear that it was the amount of management changes the club made that season that relegated us. <ok>

All the strikers mentioned in this thread are better than Andy Carroll. Why buy him just because he's British?

It's all a bit pointless unless Pardew gets his head out the sand and starts playing to the natural strengths of our existing players, and motivates them. So perhaps you could argue Carroll would come 'pre motivated' due to his 'love of the club', however you're scraping the bottom of the barrel really. A good manager should easily get the best out if quality footballers.

    If only...
