Nice attacking 4-3-3 line up plenty of pace and skill, keep the ball on the floor, promotion no problem, via the playoffs maybe though! See things not as bad as we may think and Hessy will get in some decent players so keep positive cmon u Gills! Hawkes Fuller King Lawrence Martin Weston J Payne Spiller Oli S Payne Rooney
I agree with the above, not a bad team to be fair. Just need to replace Oli and maybe the keeper and that's a decent team!
would like to think we'd have a better strike force. i think we need maybe one more defender hopefully a mutlipurpose defender, rb/cb. obviously a goalkeeper or 2 as well. for me we only need a pacy left/right multipurpose winger as i think with oli and rooney plus spiller we have a good set of wingers all with different attributes and cm is well covered. no offence to oli and s payne but i'd be very fearful if we had to start the season with that strike force, we'd have gone from a 30 goal a season striker force to one i'd hazard would struggle to get 20 between them
Not a bad team?!?! Are you joking? Oli - 1 goal last season Rooney - 1 goal last season Payne - never scored Also King i doubt will ever be the same player We need at least five players to add to that lot plus a couple as cover. UTG!!
Whoever the youth team keeper is Fuller King Richards Martin Maher Payne Oli Weston Jackman S Payne Badly, badly need to get strikers in!
thegillzfan are you saying stefan payne was given any chance last season whatsoever?! You must be joking if you think he was, he looks quite a decent little player from what i've seen. Also i clearly said oli needs to be replaced so you're wrong there and if you think rooney was given a full chance to develop then you're wrong again, although i definitely think he needs to work on sticking to his wing and defending a bit as we looked far too exposed on his wing when he played. So yeah as i said, a decent team, i didn't say we'd get promoted with it but i doubt it would relegate us with the couple of changes i suggested
Harry i agree they didn't have their chances but that's all based on 'If's' and 'But's' the point i was trying to make was how you can say that's a good team when two of the front three we have hardly seen? UTG!!
dont panic. scally never brings in new faces til the end of summer, to avoid paying them over the summer as well, im not expecting any to be brought in yet
I think we will see at least 1 in the next two weeks. Hope so, Don't mind waiting for more after that.
Unbelievable! So Scally routinely sacrifices our early season performances (because of any new signings having missed pre-season and not being settled in), for the sake of a few quid! I really hope this is not the case!!
The points that are made by Gills, Steve are valid and need to be said. Like Steve I do hope that this is not the case, but I do have my doubts. I would have thought that Hessy must have some idea of the type and names of players that he wants to sign. This, surely is not as a direct result of the clearout and the 2 players who have also left, but because he must have interested in other players during the course of the season. What has changed is that to a certain extent, the rug has been pulled from under his feet and I doubt that the main bulk of players that he had his eyes on are now:- a) Out of his price range b) Moved on to other clubs c) Do not want to join the club because of a lack of a long/medium length contract and restrictive wage structure The remaining pool of players is diminishing by the minute. However, there will be the group of players that nobody else wants and even before his budget cuts, neither did Hessy. It does seem sensible to now go for the players that Hessy actually wants to sign before it is too late and before he is left with no other alternative to sign the players that he did not really want to sign firt of all. These players need to settle down and bond with the rest of the squad so that come the start of the season, we have some semblance of an actual team that can make some attempt to win promotion to Div 1. However, there is a eerie silence at the moment at Priestfied and in view of the current uncertainty would it not be a good idea to resurrect the meetings that were held with the fans, Manager and Chairman, just to clear the air and to state where we are financially and what are current intentions are? I feel that this will also be met with deathly silence!
Now, where did I put my shorts? Wait a minute! I haven’t yet been signed by Hessy. Perhaps that’s where the problem lies?
I think everyone's just too quick to jump to blody conclusions....remember the season finished only a couple of weeks ago....
think its more to do with many other teams in the division going out and getting these good players whilst to an extent we seem to be doing nothing. remember the season only finished a few weeks ago for everyone execpt the playoff teams
Reminds me of the old joke...."What time's kick off? ...What time can you make it ..oh and bring your boots?"... Wouldn't be the Gills if it weren't a shambles.
Now where did I put my pair of shorts? With the help of a tyre lever and some Vaseline I can still get in them - just. Somewhere, I also had a tin of Dubbin for my boots.
