I don't think we should stand in his way but I think he should give us another year and sign a contract to help us get optimum price, We've given him valuable playing time that he may not of got elsewhere as an understudy.
Sad as fukh some of these comments. Mig is top class, but still only a footballer, if some are as naive as to believe we can compete with Arsenal at this stage, then sadly you need a reality check.
Good sentiments but what if Mignolet has already got his heart and mind set on playing higher than 4th bottom of the league? I'm not convinced at all that the PDC revolution is about to change us as a club next season and Simon deserves better than what we can currently give him. If we got a hefty sum which could help bring in 2 or 3 better outfield players and Westwood is an able deputy, would that not give the club better options. Football is sometimes more pragmatic than just the heart alone kidda.
Hope this isn't true:- Arsenal are set to start their transfer window spending with the capture of Sunderland goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet, who is expected to sign for the Gunners once the transfer window opens at the start of next month. Rumours of Mignolet leaving the Stadium of Light have been rife for months now, with both Arsenal and Liverpool said to be tracking the Belgian keeper. However, it seems that the North London club will win the race to sign the highly rated keeper, with the Reds turning their attention to other targets. Arsene Wenger has not hidden his desire to sign a new stopper in the summer, with his patience with current number one, Wojciech Szczesny, growing thin. Despite finishing the season between the sticks at Arsenal, the Polish keeper found himself dropped from the starting XI on a number of occasions during the season. Mignolet has slowly established himself as one of the safest pairs of hands in the Premier League and is tipped to join a bigger club. Despite reluctant to let the Belgian leave the club, Sunderland are thought to be willing to sell the 25 year old for around £10 million. Wenger reportedly has a transfer kitty of around £70 million and would be eager to spend some of it on a solid goalkeeper.
If that's the case I'll be disgusted with the club I really will. 10 million? Going into the the last year of his contract maybe, 5 million in the last January window of his contract. 20 million, if they want him enough they'll pay it.
Mate, I utterly appreciate that the lad is destined for the top, and that when he does go, he deserves our blessing. The time is not now, now we need to be showing ambition, selling our top man puts us straight on the back foot.
Agree with keeping him. We need to establish ourselves as a top 10 team. Mig is our best player, and we need him for the next few seasons to get us established. If we sell him, chances are we'll sell Sess, aj if money comes in, but well under value. Mig will leave, and hopefully for a top team like utd, Chelsea when Cech leaves, or even Real. Would be gutted if he goes to Liverpool, as they aren't a top team anymore IMO. We need to keep mig at east until we've got a solid team. Until then, offer him anything. Throw the kitchen sink at him.
Keepers are undervalued.A good keeper can keep more out than a top forward scores at the other end yet never command the same fees. Savvy managers will realise this.Hope we can hang on to Ruddy.
Whilst I'd love us to keep Mignolet, I think that in the long term, he's going to move on to a top club. Westwood is definitely second choice, but he's a good keeper too, but probably wants more first team football. My concern is that if we keep Mig now, and Westwood leaves, then if Mig does move on after a season or maybe less, we could end up with a worse replacement than Westwood would have been. Hence if we get a good offer now, I'd certainly think hard about it.
Mixed feelings on this. I would probably sell for £15m+ as we have a good back-up and bigger priorities elsewhere. Mig is top class, largely because of the amount of practice he got at SAFC, but not irreplaceable.
I think that had Westwood been our starting keeper last season, we probably would have been saying the same things about him. We all know what happens when a player is wishing he was somewhere else, so if Mig wants to go we are best off getting the best deal we can for him and send him off with our blessing.
In an ideal world I would rather we keep Mignolet, but if he is to go we need to get £15m for him at a minimum.
