He is strongly tipped to become part of the Swans set up and is being recruited by Huw Jenkins to head up our Youth and development/sporting director with a strong focus on identifying the next generation of young players to push into the first team.

Incredible stuff if this is true! This guy has been credited with picking out superstars such as Jaap Stam,Aren Robben Ruud Van Nistlerooy,Ronaldo,Tom hudlestone,Micheal Dawsen and a fair others like jon obi mikel and salamon kalu.

His shift into the youthset up at Chelsea has seen him oversee the arrivals of the following, with apparent mixed results for Chelsea but for us these boys would do ok.
"Jack Cork, Michael Mancienne, Nemanja Matic, Gael Kakuta, Gokhan Tore and Josh McEachran have all been bought or developed under his tenure"

Frank is also Danish and has just parted ways with German team Hamburger FC (isn't that what they are called!) could be a great move for the Swans . Thoughts ?

We certainly need a far more professional approach to our youth strategy.

On the plus ...discovered Ronaldo, Jaap Stam, Van Nistelroy

on the negative has been a 'destablizing' element in several clubs. Lets see if its true first and if so, hopefully ML will kniw him well enough and be strong enough to make him know his place in the set up.

Perhaps Mikra is better placed to enlighten us?

I think the de stabalising has come because he was put into jobs with a remit of "going over" the managers head in terms of player recruitment. That is never going to go down well. Ego plays a big part as well ,Mourinho isn't exactly a shrinking Violet is he ?

At Spurs Arnesen brought in Santini's assistant which was always going to be a bit worrying, Martin Jol ended up becoming the manager and looking back it was an inspired appointment.

Maybe this is with the nod of Laudrup? Arnesen looking after Germany and Holland while Larsen looks after Spain and other places?? fantasy I guess but im pleased that this area is apparently getting looked at.

I mentioned a few months back about our set up with youth and I aid to Dragon that the guys there now are just probably holding the reins until we get all the facilities up and running then we will start to pay the going rate for a quality guy, looks like that may be about to happen?

I would like this move to come off and I think we could do very well with this guy.

In an interview in Danish newspapers he says that he's going on a long vacation, and will later primarily ne interested in working out of Netherlands. His family lives in there, and most of his career (both playing and staff) was there. PSV.
Between the lines he says he'll go to a major club. And also plays down any thoughts of becoming Denmark coach (Morten Olsen is widely expected to step down if WC-qualification fails, or after WC)

He is currently still employed by HSV for another 12 months, and it will COST him in the range of £1,3 - 1,6 mill to work for any other club.

This guy is out of Swanseas league: he has the reputation ML didn't have. Hats off to the Swansea board if they land this guy - no way is it going to happen I say...

I'm thinking you may hold Arnesen in a little high of a regard Mikra, and the Swans are by no means bankrupt, money talks and this guy is easily affordable for the Swans. He learned his mistakes at Chelsea where big clubs won't utilise his efforts much to annoyance, and management is probably not his thing as shown in Germany.

He's a clever bloke and will know what job he is best at and what clubs will actually appreciate the work he does, he'd get full support and recognition at Swansea and his wages would be paid. No matter than name, no scout is on mega bucks like players and even only a handful of managers earn anywhere what lower paid Prem stars get.

Why do you think a scout out of work is out of Swansea league exactly?

It's not that I hold him high, he's just not what swans are looking for. It's possible you 're looking for a director of sport but:
    * swans have a Spanish profile - Arnesens knowledge is in south america/benelux
    * you're not going to employ a director of sport that cost you the same a year that you paid for Michu
    * Erik Larsen does MLs scouting and has done so his entire career
    * For the youthsetup you'll need someone familiar with local/regional talent, Arnesen is the closer of multimillion deals : fat-Ronaldo, van Nisteroy, van der Vaart,

Are you sure about that? Arnesen was involved in mostly inexpensive low profile acquisitions during his time at Chelsea, he made just three high profile signings there whilst the rest were youth. It really irked him that Chelsea kept making big money high profile signings which undermined his work.

And Swansea cannot just rely on UK/Spain for scouting, they have to expand beyond that and at this moment they nobody with Arnesen's link to South American markets.

I have no idea to the validity of this report but if true then it is exactly what the Swans need, we cannot keep relying on Spanish clubs selling cheap because soon they will know we are targeting players who we think will come good and thus hold out for ever more cash. It will be a case of our reputation preceding us.

His work at Chelsea, from what I know, was to begin with to create a youth department in the beginning (because of the many foregin players), but he was later promoted to director of sports. Wasn't he the one to bring in Torres, Luiz and Ramires BTW?

Sorry got my facts wrong Wikipedia: "Arnesen spent 10 years as director of football at PSV Eindhoven, and was credited with discovering major talents, such as Brazilian striker Ronaldo and Dutch players Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Arjen Robben." and "Arnesen has since played a key role in bringing Salomon Kalou, Florent Malouda and John Obi Mikel to Chelsea. "

No worries, he was director of sport at Spurs and involved in VDV as you said, he has experience in that side of the sport. I have to admit that I find it odd that a gambling company would get the scoop on this... It does make me wonder if they are engineering a flush of bets from gamblers on a story they created <laugh>

It's a possibility - in partcular because the odds are SO ridiculous on this one... As my hint at Schmeichel further up implied...

    Intresting views i must say.

Knowing how our club work i see it as a possibility. Laudrup is probaly going to leave at the end of next season and he will be taking Larsen with him,its for this reason that Swansea has 2 scouting networks. The club have their own system and source their own talent and Laudrup has his network. This is fact so i beleive there could be something in this. We also have a new training complex and now finally have everything in place to develop talent properly.

Intresting that you mention Swansea having a Spanish profile. If anything our connection to Holland has and is probably as strong now as it has ever been. People seem to forget that we have has as many Dutch players here than spanish and having personally talked to a semi-pro dutch team while on holiday they tell me that the Swans are watched and supported by many just purely because of the links them and us.

Of course one of our directors is also Dutch and we have a close tie in with Ado Den Haag .

I tend to think its peobably not going to happen but it would make perfect sense if it did. The Swans are progressice and they also know Laudrup is getting ready to fly the nest.
