Geezus, who taught you how to write without punctuation like that? Based on this posting and your 3 or 4 examples from his career, we should now consider your writings, albeit not hyped by anyone, to be completely overated. To try to bring a semblance of cohesiveness to what you wrote: Remember it very well. Now do you remember the Brazilian then gliding past orange-boy-scholes as if he wants even there before beating 1 or 2 other players on his way. Yet Beckham gets blamed solely for that goal becuase he lost the ball in Brazil's half. Euro 2012, saw many other celebrated players trying the same thing. If you can tell me how many more than the fingers on you hand were scored directly from free kicks, you an even leave out the thumb and it is no more challenging, I would be most interested. Not as easy as it looks mate. He did it many times on the run with pinpoint accuracy. How many players have England tried in his former position and have still not found one who can do that with the same level of success? I will offer you a clue - about the same or less thna the number of Euro 2012 free kicks scored directly. Considered to be better than any other English players 107 times, I believe, by multiple managers who selected him. Not to mention hundreds of times by that dominant red lot and one of the top teams in Europe over there in Madrid many times too. Sorry mate, find me the best footballer you can and I will find you 4 or 5 big errors in their careers too. Big picture - you wont find any number of players close to 1,000 that were better. 100 - 200, probably.
1, Bit rich talking about punctuation, and cohesion, Jonny 2, we were talking about Beckham, not Scholes. 3, Again, we were talking about Beckham, and it took goldenballs 8 attempts to get it on target 4, pinpoint accuracy, to get it in the box, , 5, Shirt seller, marketing, etc, etc
Jonny, I think you need to accept that a lot of people don't view him in the same light as you. The reason he was capped so many times is because of his consistency and you can't take that away from him. He had very admirable traits that I wish a lot more footballers had consistency, passion, work rate. He then made a name for himself in england from a number of reasons, most of which were away from football. Any club he went to after scum was basically for shirt sales imo and not for his ability. I wouldn't be able to name 1000 players that would be better than him over their whole career but I could certainly name 1000 players that were better at the peak of their career so I guess it sort of depends what parameters you want to put on it. He is not a legend though by any stretch
I wasn't going to say any more, but please Johnny...jealous lol...that's something said in the school yard. Now I presume it was'nt directed at me, but for someone who is nearly 50 the days of being jealous are well over... We aren't talking about how professional or how hard he trains, if we were then of course he'd be in the top 1000...
Howya OneLeeds, not bad thanks, just hoping for a better season and maybe a meet up with your goodself and plenty of ales..
When were you last here? I think things may have changed since then. It is not hard to see why this is the case. I travel on a regular basis and it is not unusual to see these larger people drinking very large milkshakes and scoffing huge burgers with all sorts of bad stuff heaped on them. Amazing to me that people let themselves go like that.
I know the feeling..One minute you're in your 20s and slim, then you wake up nearly 50 and your over weight.
Jonny, TC knows I'm an Elvis fan and into the Rock n Roll and he's been showing that pic for ages now....and no it's not me...
I know it is not you, it is TC! Serious question now, you are a big fan of Elvis. but how many goals did he score?
**** me, Jonny, that was almost a swearword, you foul-mouthed American. What you need to accept is that, as well as the fact that some people will always disagree with you on this, you also need to accept some will agree with you - like me. It is all opinion, for me he was not a truly great player, but top 1000, of course he was. He was a good player and top 1000 certainly, just not a "top 10/top 50 even" great one. On losing the ball - Revie said that Bremner and Giles lost it all the time in midfield (its true too, they did), and the defence would get it back and say "have another go" (also true, though the whole team would fight to get it back, not the defence). So would not criticise him for that. Don't think its jealousy exactly, but I do think theres a British thing of always pulling down anyone who becomes extremely famous. I was hoping this argument would continue, there seemed a possibility we might get a proper swear word out of you...............
