    Great supporters down there.

Craziest & poorest city in Western Europe.

    A flask-free stadium.

Half empty stadium a lot of the time too, not just Napoli though, that's the case with most Italian teams.

I can't even find that 60,000 gate you mentioned, only 51,000 which seems to be the record in Serie C. Their average is around 40,000. Of course this is still impressive for a club that was demoted to the third tier and is in a league that has been on a downward spiral after the highs of the 90's and early millennium.

From memory it was the Serie C home leg play-off, which they were in only a few years back. I haven't checked that but I think he's right, I seem to recall 60,000 for what was ultimately a third tier match. Amazing how far they've come.

The record for a Serie C game is 51,000 and it was Napoli and it slaughtered the previous record(along with most of the Serie A attendances that season).

I found this video, someone mentions 60,000 in the comments and without translating it I can only assume they mean the attendance.

It's hard to find, I read the other day that Italian clubs don't have to give their attendances to the public either.

    A post on there stating; NAPOLI-REGGIANA 2-0

Third victory in a row and third place for Napoli

60,000 came to San Paolo to see Napoli play Reggiana. A crowd not even seen at Champions league games or Serie A this season was testament to the strength of Napoli and it's great supporters.

Posted on Feb 10th 05 so it wasn't even a playoff game if this is the case. It's hard to find anything that actually confirms it though. The official website only seems to go back to their Serie B season.

You both could be right, but there's a few places that said the Serie C attendance record was 51,000.

Original point still stands though, due to awful stadiums and the recent scandals the attendances in that league are poor and a lot of stadiums are usually half full.

Despite having a great season, Napoli's attendance this season was less than 40,000.

I didn't realise until I just checked, that the highest average attendance in Europe this season was Borussia Dortmund, an average of 80k over a season is really impressive.

They're the fifth highest in Europe with 71,000.

Eight of the top twenty attendances in Europe are German clubs, we should follow the German model as soon as possible. Ownership, ticket prices, safe standing, everything about the German model ****s on what we're currently doing.

Agreed. They have the safe standing meeting soon, so hopefully it;s a start.

Although, they have nets/ cages infront of the fans, i noticed when watching the Bundesliga Highlights the other night.

I just put this on the Champs League final thread that over 502,567 Dortmund fans had applied for the final.

They're really not the reasons. Yes the stadiums are very dated however you will never hear an Italian say "I'm not going to the match cos the stadium is crap." The primary reason is because of the TV deal over there. Every single Serie A match is available on legal TV and millions of fans buy TV season tickets for their team and watch it from home.

Haven't they had an average over 80k for something like the past 6 years?
