http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal.../news/williams-agrees-arsenal-move_85871.html ah well, if true a big player gone who we'll need to replace quickly ,it took a bit of time for Ash & Chico to form an understanding so lets hope the club moves quickly to replace him .Then again it's the silly season so wait and see I suppose
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/05/24/4000198/swansea-city-defender-williams-agrees-terms-with-arsenal Just found more on this
I'd be disappointed but I believe with that money Laudrup has the ability to find a good replacement at a fraction of the cost. If we do get 8-10 million that will buy us two players so I'm not gonna be too worried about it. Also who would be the new captain? Britton? Michu?
You know what? I'm not that bothered. Williams can be immense on his day but shocking when his head isn't right, which has been a lot recently and his game has been strewn with errors. I genuinely think that there's better out there for less - probably from Spain.
I'm not too bothered either for much the same reasons. He will be replaced just as others have been for a fraction of what we get for him, so I'm certain it will be more good business for the club. Having said that, I do get the feeling that Ash will be one of the few to leave our club and go on to be a success elsewhere and I for one will wish him all the best...apart from when he lines up against us obviously
Just tell our players to drop a looping ball over the top - he can't deal with them. What about Bartley stepping up? Seems a decent player to me. Something going on behind the scenes by the looks of things.
I reckon Michu would be a good captain if his English is up to it. Passionate and the only person on the pitch who urges the team forwards when we retreat into our shells.
We should give him a try, but given that Williams has been part of our defence for years we can't piss about hoping Bartley will suddenly fill his shoes. Need to buy a quality CB who can work with Chico.
Bartley has peed on his corn flakes - not sure how but doesn't make the bench ahead of Monk? We just need to be a little careful selling homegrowns and buying foreign - which seems to be every rumour.
Every time somebody leaves, people fear they cant be replaced. Every single one of them can. I remember how i felt when Trundle left. He was replaceable and clubs move on. If Ash doesnt want to be here, then goodbye and welcome his replacement. I think he has had half a good season this year and it happened to be the middle half. He was poosr at the start remember the blunder against villa and there was another a week later. He got back to his best and then was poor towards the end of the season for me. I know this is wishfull thinking, But arsenal want rid of Vermalen, I think he is a good player, they only want 5m for him. Wages would be a problem though. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...en-plans-Emirates-exit.html?ito=feeds-newsxml http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4938672/Thomas-Vermaelen-can-go-for-5m.html
If we get £10-£12 million for Ash then I think that would be enough to let Spurs sell Caulker to us, as he hasn't been first choice at Spurs this season. If not, then I'd have a crack at trying to buy somebody like Lescott.
The club have come out with a statement that there has been no contact with Arsenal regarding Williams.
It pains me to disagree because I want this to be true in so many ways, but I don't think Spurs have any intention of selling him. He made 18 appearences for them this season and they have some very good defenders already whilst always maintaining that Caulker is a future captain for the club.
If Ash does go and we can't find another comparable CD what about giving Ben Davies a try in that position? He already knows the system and I can think of far worse back fours than Rangel - Chico - Davies - Taylor!
Obviously not on the club web site. http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Swansea-City-defender-Ashley-Williams-reportedly/story-19079485-detail/story.html#axzz2UDLHL87n
