See nothing wrong in signing Kolo on a Free, as long as he's on reasonable wages too!
He won't be part of the 1st choice pairing so a experienced backup is never a bad thing.

let me put it this way about toure.

    1. is he gallas? no, i don't think he's a disruptive ****e. thats a good thing.

    2. Is his deal going to be pay as you play? I certainly hope so. we have heard ayre on about performance based contracts. well ehre is a perfect example. This guy wants to come then find 30k basic the rest on performance. play 20 games get up to 60k or whatever you value a squad effort at.

    3. Again experience is over rated. may i say Mauricio Pellegrino to you guys. Rafa brought in experience. the guy couldn't run and was a total liability. kolo toure MUST MUST MUST be able to play and function as a CB when called upon. not fill in a few league cup games cos he's "experienced"

    4. in the context of skertl going, carragher gone and coates incapable of holding his own we have ONE CB in agger who could go do his back at any time. It makes perfect sense to me to bring this guy in if it is in the context of needing that option at a good price BUT only if points 2 and 3 are met. I for one don't want to go into the season with Papadopolous proving himself after knee surgery, agger with a dodogy back and kelly returned after a cruciate plus wisdom and a failing coates. I think if points 2 and 3 are met then its ok.

I hope the Joe Cole experience has reinforced the fact that there is no such thing as a 'free' transfer.

The thing with Joe Cole is he was signed by Christian Purslow, not a manager or DoF. It was a media move that he thought he could cash in on.

Rafa did not want Coe, Cole did fit Roy Hodgson's style so I doubt he wanted him, Dalglish obviously didnt want him and even though he gave him a chance, it didnt work out with Rodgers either.

The lesson to be learnt is that people in roles like Putrslow's or any office role must never pick the players, ever.

The Joe Cole deal was all Purslow's fault.

Cole is a good point here also. purslow ego really did cost us here... cost us rafa too by accounts.

but i think we can draw up a long list of frees that are awful... jovanovic, voronin, degen to name but 3.. why? like i said a above. their contracts were huge wages. if we link toure to performance then its at least something. again my point 2 and 3 are critical. he's got to be paid by performing and be capable of performing.

i dearly hope we are not bringing someone to age on our field when paisley gave us the golden rule, let them age elsewhere.

Example: kuyt left at the right time, he gets a couple of years and might win something. we don't see him slow and not being able to run.. hyypia got a couple of years more elsewhere.... on the other hand we took pelligrino, litmanen, reidle and a few others that really we got very little out of.

sounds promising, but then on the other hand could we have 2 players in the first team that could be out for several games a season and be disruptive to the first team.

be a gamble, but then personally i think the position we are in at the mo with not being too hopeful with our targets as most will want CL football, we need players who give a 100% for the shirt, even if that comes with baggage and consequences, so for me i hope we go for him.

Sure it's not like our rep is going to get damaged is it? Nobody likes us as it is. And we all forgave Luis for the sake of his skill.

Anyway: Fresh starts and all that.....

I have not forgiven Suarez. My view remains the same as it was. Ban him. Sell him. Shame though.

Fair enough lol; we aren't going to though, at least for behavior reasons....so if we don't can we then say don't buy a player because of one inccident of violent behaviour in the past?. I mean taking club colours aside and being all seeing of a persons entire career would that mean we would turn down a Zidane or a Cantona?

I think we need to learn our lesson. If all we are seeing is a bargain then I can write a list form bellamy to pennent to suarez where sure you might get some great times but they also bring a lot of baggage. If its just the bargain then you are asking for trouble.

If we are really confident we could turn the guy around thats one thing.... but why buy trouble?

Oh and 18 matches for bands, one for a finger and exclude yellow card ban then you see an entire half season suarez will miss for being a ****. 23 league goals is great though as well but we all know why we actually got suarez day one for the moeny cos nobody else was touching him. My point is

    a) why repeat that?

    b) why increase the issue by adding another?

    c) saying nobody likes us so why is not good. We should have our own standards regardless and thus earn grudging respect back.

MITO: I agree with your principles. But they no longer exist in a multi million pound game.

We aren't in control they are.

I absolutely guarantee you won't be able to organize a march of enough fans insisting that we sell a player getting us 23 goals a season (when free from bans), so it's not a collective high moral standard from club or fans or league: rivals will have no such qualms and as he (Suarez, Aspa etc) scores against us time & again will we take comfort in our isolated morals?

Am I wrong that this is his only misdemeanor of this type (Aspa)? So that's why I used a Cantona or Zidane as examples of high profile one off acts of assault. Would you have turned either down with the knowledge they had one event of this type in them?
