Lets be honest, eh Jonny. You rather like Victoria, don't you, thats the reason for all this leaping to the defence of Maison Beckham? You'd quite like to hold hands with her on a dark summer evening...... and don't deny it, you are after all a man who considers the Ford Edsel to be the height of automobile beauty
TBF Johnny, Hunter was there to stop goals not score them. I'd doubt pretty boy would have lasted 90 mins in those days..
as much as I think he was over rated I do believe he put more effort in for the country than any Ive seen and if everyone tried as hard as him for England we would do far far better in competitions.
I agree with that, but the point is I am not sure that Beckham was on the pitch to score them either.
When I used to play I used to put in more effort than anyone I'd ever played with. I played through countless serious injuries, I don't rate myself to be a great player purely because I wasn't good enough. Effort is admirable and I agree with Ya-Bad's comment but it doesn't make a great player on its own
Agreed, but he was good enough and this was a big part of what he was and why he played for whom he played, as many games and was part of winning teams. Some more to read - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...s-wekend-referee-watch.html?ito=feeds-newsxml.
He was just there to look pretty so... Off topic, but talking about legends (true legend IMO) I see Eddie Gray was inducted into the hall of fame at the national museum. Just as good as best, but didn't get the same press attention because (again my personal opinion) of who he played for and also because he didn't get pissed and feck around.
At last someone agrees with you... Andy Hughes put a lot of effort in as well (ok not at country level) It shows how some people have selected memories and forget at one stage he was hated by a lot of England fans after his sending off against the argies (I think)
NICE!!!!!!!! I watched Andy Hughes play and he is no David Beckham! Hey, that sending off was silly on his part. No one is perfect, other than some posters on this board, of course. The point is the man was a model professional according to all he played with and for, and he has many achievements over a long period at the highest level, to which he made meaningful contributions. Statements like "he is not in the top 1,000" are simply ridiculous and come across as bitterly vindictive. That's all. Good night and good luck.
Fair enough Johnny.. My last word on this subject. I dislike him partly because of his history, but mainly because of the over the top press coverage and hype...
I understand that and understand that is why Fergie sent him on his bicycle. Despite all that, not one person has ever said he missed a training session or did not train as hard as anyone else. No one has ever questioned his professionalism despite all these outside activities and interests. A lot of jealousy out there amongst other footballers and many fans too, IMHO. Have a great summer!
So you have had your summer for this year then? Regarding his missus,, this discussion should be about David Beckham. The Spice chick is another person and has nothing to do with football. Just the same as his movies, underwear, etc. Quite honestly, if I saw a picture of her without a caption or saw her in person, I would have no idea who she is,

Ok, jonny back on topic, do you remember Beckham in the 2002 World Cup I think it was, when he bottled a challenge by jumping out of the way against Brazil, when he should have hoofed it into row Z, then Brazil went on to score and England lost 2-1, then there's that goal against Greece, the free kick in injury time, it took him 8 attempts at that before he got it on target and scored, they always show it on those greatest goals programmes they air before a big tournament starts the talking heads were gushing about how Beckham rescued Engerland, and showed clips of him running about winning the ball...... but losing the ****ing thing straightaway, yes he runs about, that's why I said he's like a headless chicken, and as for him crossing a ball, if a footballer can't put the ball in the box from a dead ball position, he shouldn't be on the ****ing pitch, its the man who gets on the end of a cross and scores should get the most plaudits, but its always that over hyped media whore. Sorry, he's an overrated average player. built up because of his image imho of course
