Incidents such as this are meat and drink for extremists from both sides, as it gives an excuse to generalise and condemn millions for the actions of a few..

I agree, but unlike the word "discrimination", the word "racist" is a socially unacceptable and ugly label to tag someone with, when he was clearly not being racist in any way.
