Poyet is one of several candidates under consideration for the position created by Stoke's decision to part company with manager Tony Pulis on Monday after seven years in charge at the Britannia Stadium. It is believed Poyet is keen to talk to Stoke regarding the post and is thought to be highly regarded by Mark Cartwright, the new technical director at the Premier League club. The former Chelsea midfielder's situation is further complicated by his on-going dispute with Brighton chairman Tony Bloom, who suspended Poyet and banned him from the club shortly after their failure to make it to the Championship play-off final. Bloom is still investigating comments made by Poyet in the aftermath of the semi-final defeat against Crystal Palace which suggested the Uruguayan was unhappy with the club's transfer budget for next season and was considering leaving the Amex Stadium. Poyet is still waiting for a resolution to the on-going investigation and there is a concern that the increasing delay could seriously affect his prospects of landing the Premier League post he craves. A source close to Poyet said: "He would like a conclusion to the situation at Brighton so that both he and the club can move forward and make plans for the future. "At the moment there has been no official approach from Stoke City regarding their vacancy. They would have to go direct to Brighton and then it is a question of whether Brighton, given the current situation, will grant permission for Gus to talk to them." Poyet signed a five-year contract with Brighton in 2011 and was granted permission to discuss the vacant Reading post in March, but decided against taking the job at the Madjeski Stadium. Stoke are currently deciding on a shortlist for the post and also have an interest in Steve Bould, Roberto Di Matteo and Roberto Martinez and hope to speak with potential candidates before the end of the month.
