    Elliot recovering.

United unveil next season's keeper's kit.

As well as giving Steve Harper the chance of a proper sendoff against Arsenal on Sunday, Rob Elliot's enforced absence allowed the Newcastle goalkeeper to undergo minor surgery earlier than had been planned.

The 27 year-old custodian went under the knife for what he termed "a service" on his elbow, having reported some soreness following the recent West Brom away game.

Elliot should be fit to begin pre-season training, meaning that he'll begin as first-choice 'keeper ahead of next season, with Tim Krul anticipated to return in mid to late August after recovering from a dislocated shoulder

Decent keeper but not premier quality. Need to sign 2keepers this summer to put pressure on krul.

It's ridiculous when a new player comes in and everyone judges him on his mistakes but none of his good qualities.

He's made some mistakes, but overall he's been very good.

He's made many fantastic saves, he's good in the air, and his distribution is much better than Kruls.

    People are far too critical.

TBH I think he's looked very good this season.

And any man who can throw a football further than he can run must be good for something...

Agreed, he's good enough for a back up keeper bud not quite good enough for first choice. He knows that though so he won't ever rock the boat as he's happy playing second fiddle which makes him the perfect back up keeper for us.

Exactly. Keep him as a 2nd choice, and remember that he's only 26 years old. That's the equivalent of being 21/22 as an outfield player as Keepers generally play until their late 30's/early 40's.

Most outfield players retire around 33-35.

So Elliot has more time to develop.

Not good enough for the PL even as back up. Glad he's on the road to recovery though.

We're a top class goalie factory, so generally speaking I'm not worried , and we don't have to sign any goalies.

We should have some promising goalies, the next Tim Kruls and Fraser Forsters coming up through our ranks so the sooner they develop and push Elliot out the better for the club.

Freddie Woodman is meant to be the next big thing anyway - then again his dad advised us to sign Elliot <yikes>

think Elliott should be third choice. But we can't afford a second choice keeper so he'll be backup for another season. His distribution is decent. His reflexes I'm not convinced on. Agile enough from distance to pull off a good stop and has a strong wrist, but decision making and quick thinking are not his strong points.
