I still don't get why they didn't just use last year's car. If they're altering the 28 to be like the 27, then why not just use the 27, until the 28 is sorted?

<laugh>

I bet his demotion to non-executive chairman was because of the Bahraini's.

Serves him right for thinking a McLaren road car could compete with Ferrari.

:)
Presumably, you've read the article? Regardless of what a journalist chooses to call it, "demotion" simply is not the case! Applauding the cheap laugh of cheap journalism is … well …

I should add – as some may remember from long ago –
that Ron Dennis is not someone I warm to as a human being. Nonetheless, I fully acknowledge (and yes, admire) what he has achieved over several decades and how he goes about his business. It's probably as close to 'without compromise' as is humanly possible, at least in my experience.

I feel I should also respond to your second sentence, which suggests it's unlikely you've actually made a valid comparison! Whilst making no claim to have driven all from either stable, I have rated various McLaren road cars as comfortably better than products from their direct competitor; the latter tending to be tasteless pasta with compensatory chilli, served in a cochineal substitute for real tomato. Don't be taken in by the toy-shop gimmickry designed to appeal to the ignorant; it actually intrudes upon the driving experience in a big way.

A general comparison of what you can expect when you get chance at a reality check:
One is purposeful, functional and without a hint of compromise; the other is over-dressed to the point of vulgarity, and even on its own ground, underwhelms with self-contradiction!
In terms of the true thoroughbred, one has a badge whilst the other sets about its business with unmatched determination. One shouts "look at me
" whilst the other steals the show with enough "cool" to chill the hottest head in a Bahrainiheatwave!

Oh, one more thing. In terms of taking same-era production road cars for a day to play at the races, every racing driver will choose the McLaren unless 'bought' through contractual obligation to have someone else mess with his/her spaghetti (and they'll cream it enough to send it home by lunch-time).

No offence
Forza. Your offer of this meal was just too good to resist.
:)

So they'll more than likely suffer in 2014 similarly to when they did 2009. It would make sense for them to right off this year if by the time we reach Spa they are unable to win the championship.

I suppose it depends on whether their is any inhernet DNA in this car that would translate into the new model. I cant but wonder whether the car theu have at the moment is just bad, or whether they are using this as a development mule for the new regulations coming in 2014?

My Dad, who has spent most of his life in and around motorsport, racing and setting up cars from grass-track to Touring cars, is of exactly the same opinion, he's pretty sure that their aim from the get go was to hit the ground with a years head start and dominate the next few years.

Could something as simple as this have a big effect for McLaren this weekend:

Copying the Red Bull Floor/exhaust strakes or whatever they are called.
