So, the BBC have written reviews for each manager in the PL this season. Guess what they had to say about Rodgers? I will give you a clue, it wasnt particularly nice, and it is not fair either. Liverpool
thing is there's not a fact that's incorrect in it is there? I reckon if that sort of stark message sunk in all round then the club might finally stop the amateur antics from moores to parry to G&H, purslow and even FSG. Pin that to the dressing room wall and go prove them wrong! " still a world away from title contenders and not yet even relevant to the chase for Champions League places" harsh but what do you want red tinted glasses review? balance? harsh but reality is harsh. i've no issue with it. you should be angry, everyone should be angry. then channel it to improve.
I am a terrible human being for agreeing with this?! Only item I picked up on was their point that Rodgers has been well backed - not in the summer he wasn't. We got **** all.
we did get 11, 15, 3, 3 + 3 unspent = 32million. now of course thats offset by who left as well but we got some. adam, 4 mil, kuyt 1mil, aquilani 3mil so its still 20mil+ summer then 20.5mil january to be follwed by 20mil summer again. Thats why i am somewhat optimistic. get it right and we'll improve!
we didn't beat the top 4 but we drew with arsenal and really should have won, Halsey's decisions cost us something against United and we should have equalised at OT too in the last 15 and gave city a gift of a draw. done well v Chelsea at Anfield considering the gift of the peno, bitgate apart of course. It wasn't half as bad as the Beeb make out we had some bad luck and in some only performed for 1 half of the game. the beeb are talking bollox
I'm fairly confident that we'd have been in the mix for top 4 if we signed Coutinho and particularly Sturridge in the summer (though I think Sturridge was injured but you get my point) I think Rodgers got off on the wrong foot, from underestimating various players, leading to signing players that shouldn't have been a priority, missing out on a striker and starting off the season fielding players that (at the time at least) weren't good enough. But he's shown that he can learn from mistakes, from fielding youngsters that were good enough, to then making intelligent signings in january. From January onwards I think we've only lost twice in the league, and in that time it was clear that the defence is now our biggest problem, which he's already looking to fix.
You have certainly improved under Rodgers, I think things will be a lot better in his 2nd second season. Maybe not title challengers but certainly pushing for Europe and a place in top 4? Not beyond the realms of possibility. Depends who you get in in the summer.
On another day, we'd have gotten results against the top 6 teams. We played really well against City, for example, and should have took the three points. Same for Everton, etc. Yeah, we didn't get those results and football is swings and roundabouts, but we're not a million miles away. For a one man team as claimed before January, we've done great without Suarez and finished the season well. It's not an incorrect review, but it's a bit harsh. I think BR's done alright and I think we'll be much closer to 4th next season. I'd be happy with 5th and closing the gap considerably.
If the reviewer had wanted to be really harsh he could have mentioned the fact we finished TWENTY EIGHT ****ING POINTS behind United and twelve off 4th. That's a disgrace. Its not a disgrace entirely of Rodgers making but he has to take his share of the blame because he's made mistakes. He spent in the summer wasting £30million on utter tripe. He wiped £10 million off Mandys price overnight then sent him loan leaving us short of strikers for half a season. He basically had an absolute nightmare until January. Yes he made good signings in Jan and yes he's got us playing great football at times but half a season is not good enough for LFC. If he makes similar mistakes again he'll be getting far worse than a negative BBC review. He'll be getting the sack.
Quite a fair review to be honest, can't say I disagree with anything in particular. The last part about getting a fast start next season is bang on - if we get say 10 points out of our first 4 games we'll have a great season I think, get 4 and it'll be the same as this year
I don't remember that many people believing it would end any better or worse at the start of the season, some because they already didn't rate BR, Others because they didn't rate the existing squad. Others because they thought it would be a slow & sometimes painful upward climb. Maybe a place better, two at the most optimistic from the year before. So I don't see any reason to be disappointed it turned out exactly like that. Or to say its so. So is it lies? No. Do I give a flying monkeys butt what anyone at the BBC's bunch of "experts" think of our club? Not one ****ing jott. So: we'll have the same camps once again this pre season. The doom & Gloom lot who don't rate BR predicting another year of failure, Depending on the summer sales & buys the Don't rate the Squad camp might lift an eyebrow or two in interest or sigh in resignation , and the year 2 camp will expect that step up to competing for if not necessarily succeeding in getting a CL spot. Yes I'm one of the latter and no it doesn't mean I'm accepting mediocrity. I just don't believe in magic football fairies that can turn us into league winners in one season. I don't even believe in super managers that make no mistakes.
McNutly. VERDICT: A season that was, in a football context, nothing short of a disaster from first to last. Hughes may have excluded himself from major jobs forever and Redknapp will hardly know where to start to pick up the pieces. 'Arry isn't picking up the pieces, he had 26 games and he played a bigger part in the mess than Hughes.
Now that is ridiculous, Redknapp had plenty of time to get them out of trouble along with a transfer window and HE failed
'Arry's put them in a bigger financial mess than anyone, he's the one the signed the likes of Samba on over £100k per week
