The bloke did this last year, giving it the 'we just couldn't resist a big bid' type comments.
He should just shut up and say nothing. We know any player could be bought at any time... we just don't need him banging on about it.
I wonder if this is a sign that Ashley has told him much of his transfer funds will come from sales?
Some of these valuations are absolute comedy gold!

Alan Pardew has admitted he is bracing himself for a summer bid for one of his big-name stars.

But the Newcastle United manager has warned Premier League and European vultures preparing to swoop that Mike Ashley won’t sell anybody on the cheap.

Toon supporters are already fearing that aces like Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa could leave this summer, while Fabricio Coloccini’s future is also far from certain.

Cabaye was subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur only last season, while Ben Arfa is believed to be attracting clubs in France and Spain.

Newcastle slapped a £15m price tags on all of their players last summer.

This year popular football agency website Transfermarkt – used by agents and managers – values Ben Arfa at £12m while Cabaye comes in at £14.5m.

Departures in recent years including Demba Ba, now at Chelsea, and Andy Carroll have not gone down well with Geordie supporters.

And after seeing their side finish in a deeply disappointing 16th place, Newcastle fans are eager to see progress in terms of new blood after a season in which a squad lacking depth cost United dearly.

Pardew, though, still scarred by Carroll’s £35m move to Liverpool two years ago, knows that he can’t guarantee top stars will stay.

In an open and honest interview with the Chronicle, he said: “We’re one of those clubs where we’re liable to lose one of our great players to a Champions League team through finance – and sometimes the will of the player.

“You can’t keep a player who doesn’t want to stay.

“Having said that, it’s going to be very difficult for any club to get a player out of here unless it’s a serious or big bid.”

Ba’s departure came at a knockdown price due to his release clause in January.

But the Carroll sale in 2011 shows that Newcastle will only move players on at their named price.

Pardew will meet the board this week to hold a radical review of the season.

Summer transfer plans will be high on the agenda and Pardew has already made it clear that signing a new striker is one of his main priorities.

St Etienne’s Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is thought to be on Pardew’s shortlist of potential transfer targets.

Aubameyang has scored 19 goals this season in Ligue 1 and has nine assists.

Potential signings from France, though, are not imminent with Ligue 1 still having another round of fixtures to go this weekend.

Carroll is another potential target, but West Ham are already in the box seat to sign the England international.

After playing in his final game for the Hammers, Carroll said: “We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

I wouldn't mind losing any of our players for 15 mil as long as it was reinvested.

I wouldn't mind getting a new set of center mids in, because Tiote is **** and Cabaye is quite inconsistent.

If we could get McCarthy and a new defensive mid in like Diame, I'd be happy as Larry.

Few twitter rumours doing the rounds that Pardew has been summoned to a meeting and it's not the usual "end of year review" so hopefully the only for sale sign he'll be putting up is the one outside his house.

Granted it's only twitter so probably not true but we can live in hope!

I was told the same thing yesterday by a local sporting 'legend' - not a footballer - with close connections to the club

It would make a fine day indeed if Pards was giving his marching orders.

I don't mind this to be honest, he has simply been asked the question and answered it honestly. It has no impact on whether clubs might or might not bid, and no impact on the morale of supporters who know the situation with regards transfers.

No harm done and a bit of a Chief Wiggum "nothing to see here" moment.

I keep wanting to get re-motivated for next season, but it's been harder than usual. This season has been epically bad, hasn't it? I read that we hadn't lost 3 at home on the bounce since 1987. Not that the Liverpool stat wasn't bad enough, mind. So whilst I'd love him to go, it's like some of our players - £15m for Tiote? Yes, please. So that the money can go towards repainting the car park? No, thanks. So that we can pick up Reid and Diame from the Hammers for next to nowt? Double yes please. Sack for Pards? Yes, please. So that Mark Hughes can have a stab? No, thanks. So that Rafa or Girard can take the job on with a transfer kitty? Double yes please.

You know what's mental - for the first time in over a decade there is a manager freely available who has vast experience yet is still young enough to manage for 15 years or more. A manager who has no release clause and has managed at the very highest level, yet who is - and this is the unique bit - seemingly willing to manager NUFC. Why? Because the jobs at the top 5 or 6 clubs are taken and because he doesn't want to move country again! And do you know what will more than likely happen? Pardew will get a vote of confidence, only to be sacked by Xmas and Everton will end up with Rafa Benitez. #opportunitymissed

It's our best and last chance to get him, it won't happen though... if Pardew was for the chop, they would have done it by now.

I don't think there's many of us, if any, that wouldn't.

I think if Pardew does get sacked Ashley should appoint Pulis immediately, then we'll find out who's not only got the most expansive range of profanities on not606 but also how proficient the emergency services are at dealing with 52,250 heart attacks in 10 minutes.

I was going to put 52,252 but it's obvious that Warm Pouch and my good self are pretty cool, calm and collected when managerial discord falls upon us....<laugh>

Remember lads and lasses, half an asprin daily, a few beers, 20 ***s a day and a good shag work wonders for the heart.

Patience is a virtue Jim <ok> I wouldn't want Rafa personally and don't know why its even discussed. Regardless of whether Pardew stays, what makes anyone think Ashley would pay a manager the kind of sums you are talking about for Benitez?

It amuses me that the very notion of Rafa coming to us is seen as a possibility with some of the " big hitters " in Europe soon to be looking for a new man, that said if he saw it as a challenge that may float his boat and the money was agreeable for all parties I'd personally take him like a shot and consider it a real coup to get the bloke.

If Pardew does get relieved of his duties I'd like to think that more realistic options such as Poyet, Laudrup and Martinez are given due consideration.

Knowing our luck he'll sack Pardew only to appoint Tony Pulis...
