afternoon troops.Richard Hughes was bullish about malachim mist's chances at ponty this evening in his column in the racing post on saturday.I also like the look of Stoute/moore combo in the 8.50 with duke cosimo.Going to go for a tasty treble by adding bruton blue into mix, pays at 7/2.

Mr Henderson has not exactly been banging in the winners of late but I am quite taken with his runner at Towcester tonight, Union Du Chenet. This son of Kahyasi stepped up on his hurdles debut to finish a decent 3rd at Newbury last time out, just in front of Alan King's Midnight Prayer (subsequent winner, now rated 123). 3 of his 4 runs have been on heavy ground and I'm hopeful he can take a big step forward and land this tonight on easier going.

Same to you Oddy! Quiet day yesterday, but Thursday wife's old boss is taking us out to our 'Indian'. No holds barred, dishes galore! Weather bloody lousy down here, you've had it better up there, has been pretty damn hot I see? I like that one of Henderson's too, has good chance. Augustiner's two main Helles are both good, the popular 'green label' one, and their brown label 'Export' also excellent.

P.S. Hissing down here, and so dark seems like one of those 'end of the earth' days............

Thanks Nass, first time I've ever seen a picture of him. Glad he seems to be doing OK, and hope he got that job he went for. Absolutely right, the ground, the ground! There are one or two other important things to consider too, but with good old Nick, always 'the ground'.

4.50 Nottingham Magic Lando 10/3 is my only bet of the day. The nicely enough bred son of Lando ran a very encouraging debut for Ismail Mohammed over this C+D last month despite an awful lot going against him. Slowly into stride, Magic Lando missed the break by about 6 or 7L and despite looking a bit green he made some very eye catching progress around the outside still travelling well to go into 2nd before fading under a lovely introductory ride by Joe Fanning. Additionally, his saddle apparently slipped at some stage during the race and he certainly looked a horse with a significant future on that run. He should have come on an absolute ton for that run and I expect him to a much more race savvy individual. The superb Thomas Brown takes the ride and a very valuable 5lb off his back and I think Magic Lando has a really good chance in this race for a trainer clearly going places.

I have not been able to take too much of an interest over the last few days as work has been getting in the way of what really matters. I have one that I like the look of in the next at Nottingham however and so wanted to put it up.

    Nottingham
    5.20 Poor Duke 4-1
This horse ran very well at Windsor last time finishing ahead of todays favourite, whilst it is a close race to call I still feel there is more to from him this year. Plenum will no doubt go well as the Lanegan horses are starting to hit form but has already finished behind Poor Duke this season, there is a Hamdan trained Roger Verian horse that is clearly not straight forward as they are putting a hood and cheekpieces on this time and I feel the real danger could be King Bertie. I feel Poor Duke has yet to reach his highest mark however as the best is yet to come and so will put him up as a reasonably strong bet.

Good evening Gentlemen. I will be having a couple of bets this evening. Financed by yesterday evenings good fortune.

Glad I got in seconds too late to get on MOSCOW MULE, boy he must have traded low in running!

VIOLENT VELOCITY smacks of value in the opener at Ponte and is my EW dabble @ 40-1

Well, my outsider blewed-out good (played-up at start, silly woman, not that it made any difference) so will have a small go with The Musical Guy at 7/4 in the 20:05 at Towester. Distance a bit short if anything, but should give a good account.

    Many Happy Returns, Badger!
