Think Toure is to replace Carra/Coates as 3rd choice.

Someoen like Ilori would become 4th choice.

    Papa would start.

That would potentially give us either Agger, Papa, Toure, Illori or Agger, Papa, Skrtel, Toure

If for this and this only, then OK.
I certainly hope he isn't "The Answer" to our defensive issues and that we are looking at a young CB for the now and future!

Yep - he won'be the first choice or maybe even second choice, but he will provide cover in times of need and add some experience. He also has experience of winning titles and cups so he has the right mentality.

Papadopolous is the main target and if we get him, he would be the starting CB.

Overall, Carra is leaving with Skrtel and Coates likely to go as well. 3 CB's positions require filling.

Carra - Toure: Experienced defender who isn't expected to play much over the season.

Skrtel - Papadopolous: Skrtel should have been a starter but struggled. With Carra gone, we now need a starter and Papa is the man.

Coates - Kelly/Ilori: Someone to take over the 'young', understudy role. Perhaps Rodgers will finally give Kelly the chance to play as CB. However, Ilori is another highly rated prospect.

I'm not so sure on that actually. Carragher became first choice. William's I'd guess would be first choice.

Williams would have come in as the experienced leader. At £12m, I don't think it's worth it and Rodgers has now moved his attention onto Toure.

Carragher shouldn't have been starting. It was only because of Skrtel's drop of form. Replace Skrtel with a first choice CB - Papa.

Carragher was in as a voice and leader on the pitch and he done well.

Skrtel should have done better but didnt.

Good, I like the fact that we aren't being held to ransom anymore!
Been a soft touch when it comes to buying and selling players for far too long, may the signings of Ford and Sturridge be a sign of things to come!

in the context of 3 cbs leaving then this might make sense as you say jimmy. If all 3 go and IF he can play a few games and not look very rusty and also not be on 50k per week...

a lot of ifs about it right now.

If papadopolous signs i hope he's not signed crocked.

If coates actually goes or is loaned then i think i'll be interested to see the next expereiment in preseason.

there must be 50 guys out thee half the cost of williams so lets see.

I think toure is very risky as he could just be shot through and a liability in our game. that said he can play rodgers game if able.

As I said earlier St he's not the answer to our defensive issues on his own but a player on a free with 300 league appearances, European experience, captained both City and Arsenal for spells, league and cup medals. 32 is hardly ancient for a centre back either. I see no problem with back up like that as long as there's no wage rape involved <ok>

Keeping the ball is the best form of defence... And Kolo has always been able to play.

I think he'll really only be utilised in cup games if he comes though. Or if we want to go to three at the back, possibly.

Starting to believe there's something in these Papadopoulos rumours.

My thoughts to. Though I can see him being quite envolved in the league.

    Toure can also play DM.

If we sign a young, foreign CB it will be risky throwing them straight in at the deep end. Toure will give us more stability in this situation. If the young guy needs time, Toure can come in.

once it was a splash in the echo i certainly thin the papadopolous one has legs. The echo usually at the very least has the track on"feeelings"

so if interest has cooled comes out on williams that is the case whereas interest is not a bid. I expect the papa one to run a bit though. its one that will take some business tactics to get done at the price. I just hope hes fit and not another caroll or aquilani, bought injured on a prayer.

I agree keeping the ball is great, thats the job of midfield etc. CBs at thier core must defend so i worry that toure is simply not big enough ,strong enough but especially not fast enough to make a difference now. I would hate to see a guy arrive, get paid big moeny and not contribute.

In Rodgers system it is every ones role to keep the ball. Even the goal keeper.

That video is class! I like when Papadopoulos goes behind Samaras and then comes out the other side still pulling the mental face <laugh>
