Its high time we forgot about last season. that was ages ago and started focusing on this one. Preseason is only really 6 week way I personally can't wait as I was so bored last season and just got all ratty and made nothing but stupid comments to pass the time. Most of the top clubs are entering a new era this year. Utd have a wannabe in charge, City and Chelsea have no manager at all, Carragher is retired, Bale has been sold and of course Everton have been relegated already Thankfully some things never change so Arsenal look to be going for 4th again. 2012/13 was a year to forget but 2013/14 will be a big year for Liverpool FC, a year to perform in , not to transition through. A year to build on progress made and new playing styles, staff and mentality achieved. so here's to Coutinho as playmaker, lucas as water carrier, reina as Mr consistent. here's to attacking full backs, hungry youths, players in their prime, a captain looking to cap his career. and above all here's to a Sky first, a fist fight between pundits over defensive organisation of the cardiff squad on day one.... I can't wait.
With Sturridge and Coutinho starting the season, I think we should naturally do better this season. My concern is that we are losing some key men - Carragher is definitely off, whilst Skrtel and Reina are likely to follow. These are big characters (Skrtel is still a decent defender IMO) and it will leave a massive hole in our already gaping back line. These are top 4 experienced players who play with passion and a love for our club. So already, we are weakened with the loss of experience.
I'm going to bet on Reina not going. I've a fancy that if barca move for more than one keeper he will want to play football first and foremost. Skertl should go IMO, if nothing else he's under contract but rodgers has made the relationship untenable so he needs to follow through and get shut now. I've no issue with him making that call but he's got to back it up. Can't wait to see who's favoured in preseason this year as everyone should be back at the same time for once. Ibe progressed mightily over the period last year so seeing who comes back in 6 weeks and is really up for it will be interesting.
There is no doubt that we will do better.... Suarez ------Coutinho -------Studge------- If we can play those 3 throughout the season.
I would have Suarez on the wing, Sturridge in the middle and Coutinho playing just behind him (Centrally). We need another winger.
I agree that we need that option. If we get another winger then.... ----------Coutinho------------- --Suarez -------------Another-- -----------Studge-------------- Would be great.
Really? Hadn't noticed Depends how you mean this. I certainly don't think it is one to forget. Bar a cup run, it's been better than the last two or three years. It is a foundation year where BR has put his initial stamp on the side and outperformed a fair few of his predecessors in the process. We have improved from last year too, plus we have some very encouraging players at the club.
gerrez, i think anything where LFC is not challenging for something is a year to forget. Nobody harked back in 2001 whilst basking in the glory of houllier's finest hour to the terrible first year he had did they? we need to put last season in the bin, stop comparing it to the season before that and focus on the now.. which is 2013/14. I think the guys are quite right we've a lovely set of attacking threats in the three we have so putting countinho in the playmaker role and putting saurez wide would be great. If we can add comeone wide as well... well that would be great. 6 weeks to the first day of preseason.. i for one can't wait. I hope we buy early for one key position at least and we take real advantage of the lack of international distractions to really prepare well for the off. 6 game without suarez means we need to start very well.
So you really do think next year is our year? Sure I want us to win the league but I'm a realist. That's not going to happen yet. I agree that if we want top four we need to aim higher but surely a more realisitic target of say, top three would be more appropriate? Especially as that would mean beating one of Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea! However, as I said, I'm a realist. We've just finished seventh, twelve points from fourth, fourteen from third, seventeen from second and a whopping twenty-eight points from the winners! How many more points do you expect us to pick up next year? I'm pretty certain you won't say twenty-eight but I suspect you will say that that is a high amount for a league season too. Do you think we can make eighty points? I don't but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be aiming for it. Hell, we should be aiming for 114pts but we won't get that many!
All I'm saying is put the last one in the bin and look forward to the next one. ally that to the standards i want LFC to hold for itself "or be honest with itself" then last year was certainly not good on any competitive front. By forgiving being nowhere, lower than even everton based on development is a very slippery slope IMO. Just go win games. in every one you can, don't bring kids on away days to southampton, don't allow lazy sloppy play and earn the wages on the match day not in training or on photo shoots. Every game is vital and a chance to prove yourself. I don't need to go making wild predictions of points to say that. i'm looking forward positively to a new season, THIS season. Last season might have ended less than 24 hours ago but in reality it totally didn't matter for 2 months. That's boring and awful, reminded me of the days under souness where there was nothing on the line. Here's just a few things to look forward to; 1. first LFC signing 2. Start of preseason 3. First lfc preseason game 4. Announcment of premiership fixtures 5. Gerrard testimonial 6. Opening day game 7. transfer deadline day. It really is only a few short weeks until we are back in training for the off again, some players will be gone, some in their prime, some looking far better prospects and some like superstars. The very best target i can think of right now is win that first game!
We have to start well, the fixtures didn't help last season but then we didn't help ourselves when we had so called easier fixtures.
So basically, one game at a time? If so, agreed However, I can't agree about forgetting this season. When looking at the squad there needs to be a gauge. We can't compare to the others sides because they are going to improve too, plus the sides you are looking at are beyond our reach ATM (my opinion of course). Personally, I prefer to wait until numbers six and seven before having a preferred objective and comparing to other sides etc
you are too connected to the past. you keep calling this season last season. think of it this way.. Carragher retired..... yes LAST season. We need to man up and stop harking back to his time cos he's a sky pundit now. same as harking back to 2009 when we've a great new era right in front of us just waiting to be unveiled Put on you optimistic hat! Both rodgers and gerrard said as much at the end of last season (yesterday)
We already got the best Brazilian of his generation in coutinho. Neymar is too small and anyway... Ibe is the man now.
