No you couldn't, you might be able to name 5 better than him at most in this decade. And Cisse was a headless chicken even before his leg break, the leg break didn't affect his playing style at all being honest, he was just rubbish anyway.
But then the Golden Glove is a better reflection of the defence of the team as a whole - in the first two seasons Reina won it, Liverpool were playing remarkably defensively - they had comfortably the worst attack of any of the Big Four. And whilst Reina may have kept the most clean sheets for three seasons, he always conceded more goals overall than either Cech or VDS, or sometimes both. Imo a better reflection of the keeper is the individual awards they have won. Reina has never been in the PFA Team of the Year, has never won UEFA Best Goalkeeper or Best European Goalkeeper, and has never appeared above VDS or Cech in the IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper rankings. Personally I think Cech deserves the award over VDS, but no way does Reina deserve to be above either of them. Another epic KPR fail. In 2008/09 VDS had 21 clean sheets and Reina had 20. Try again another day
Individual awards are more about how succesful and high profile your team is anyway. I mean, Ryan Giggs got comfortably outplayed by Gerrard in the 08/09 season but still, somehow got the player of the season award.
Shearer, Owen, (See Fowler) Fowler, (Whilst not better than Drogba when he played during the decade, he was better than Drogba at his prime and still played for us during the decade) Torres, Rooney, Van persie, Henry, Bergkamp, Gianfranco Zola, Andrew Cole (only for Man United though), Nistlerooy, Hasselbaink, Crespo I'm sure I'd think of a few more if given the time.
Not really - the only reason Giggs got the award was cos he was still playing well despite being in his late 30s. That and a kind of "oh, he hasn't won it before, well he really should have" reaction. I think that's one of the reasons VDS got picked above Cech - the whole "oh, he's coming to the end of his career and is still at the top of his game, well that really deserves an award", rather than his actual performances. And anyway, these kind of random results can happen maybe once or twice, but not as systematically as VDS and Cech have always finished above Reina in the awards. He's never once been ranked higher than either of them in an individual PL or European award, which can't just be a fluke.
Crespo, Cole, Bergkamp, Van Persie, Hasselbaink, Fowler and Zola have all been outperformed by Drogba this decade, though. Henry, Van Nistelrooy, Rooney are fair enough and you could probably justify having them ahead of Drogba. Torres, Shearer and Owen are debatable at best. These awards take into account how good the team infront of them is, though. The only statisitical evidence to prove whether Reina is equal to these guys is by measuring how many clean sheets they both get, and Reina has more than matched them in this department since joining Liverpool.
Conscrepe. Because your thick. ---------------- Its my right to not include Manchester United players in my selection,in the same way you have the right to to not include Liverpool players if you so wish.
Not really. Buffon won World's Best Goalkeeper in 2007 and he was playing in Serie B at the time. Likewise Chilavert won in in 97 and 98 whilst playing in Argentina. Likewise, Nikopolidis won in in 2004 when playing at Panathaniakos. And surely the more relevant statistics would be shots faced and saves made? With total goals conceded being more relevant than clean sheets - no point keeping a clean sheet one game if you ship three the next and the team loses.
But its about the best players, not your favourites. If you didn't include man utd players then it would mean you think they aren't good
Yes, the 'awards', which are largely based on opinion. I'm sure if you look at the actual stats you'll find he's been higher than both at one time or another. How could he win the golden gloves 3 years running and not be above them for those seasons?
Vidic and Cole are the two real head scratchers for me. When you think how Judas tore him up and got him sent of every year, just because he may had played half decent again most others, I still can't see him being the best of the whole decade, but I would give him his place ahead of Ashley "**** for brains" Cole. If only becasue he is such a total scum sucking prick.
Cos he played in one of the most defensive teams in those seasons. The team that scored fewest goals out of the whole of the top four. Besides which, the golden glove isn't a stat. The true stat is total number of goals conceded. Reina has never conceded the fewest goals of those three in a PL season, therefore he cannot possibly be the best.
